One of Lifetime’s biggest guilty pleasures premiered its ninth season on Wednesday night, and it was as crazy as ever.
Married at First Sight is a wacky, unusual social experiment if anything else which has complete strangers marrying one another at the altar and spending the next eight weeks determining if they will stay married or not.

This season we have a new expert, some unusual pairings, a virgin, an insanely tall basketball player, a woman who hasn’t dated anyone in a decade, and an odd father/daughter dynamic.
In other words, we’re in for a drama-induced season.

A New Expert
Hello, Dr. Vivian Coles, our new relationship and sex expert. It’s nice to meet you, but also, who the hell are you? Fingers crossed that this expert doesn’t end up dating one of the contestants herself. Shade? What shade?
Mr. Picky
The reason they extended the premiere is that Jaime took 35 minutes explaining to everyone what his idea is of the perfect woman. Something tells us his impossibly high expectations won’t be met. Sheesh!
Wait … a Virgin?!
Let the record show that there is nothing wrong with a person waiting to get married before they have sex. There will be no virgin shaming here. However, it’s a risky choice casting a virgin for a show like this where they are expected to marry a complete stranger.
Intimacy and sex are one of the biggest issues the couples on this series has faced over the years, and I don’t know if either person is emotionally prepared for that particular issue on top of the usual issues on this series and all of it taking place in front of America. Is Keith prepared to instantly marry a virgin? Is Iris prepared to lose her virginity to a man she barely knows whether they’re technically married or not? Whoo boy!
Elizabeth’s Parents are TOO Happy to Pawn Her Off
Elizabeth’s parents were surprised by her decision to get married to a stranger at first sight, but then they were unusually excited about getting to pawn her off on someone new because their daughter is “a lot to handle.” Um, thanks, mom and dad.
Millennial Problems
Keith’s family was not enthused about him announcing he was getting married to a complete stranger on national television. More concerning was the fact that the family or Keith had never met the other party. They thought it was a new Millennial dating thing happening. They blame everything on millennials, don’t they?
Matt’s Suit
Not to knock anyone else’s fashion sense, but who decided that all the guys would wear blue suits at their weddings, and why the hell did Matt choose this bright blue, ill-fitting suit with this red tie? He looked like he was about to join a Quartet.
TEN YEARS?!!
So, let’s do the math here. Deonna is 30-years-old, and she has not dated or been in a relationship in ten years, and the last boyfriend she had was her high school sweetheart. It’s a bold choice casting someone with that little dating experience in an accelerated process where they instantly get married. Based on Greg’s reaction, he agreed.
Full Deck
Jaime is marrying a stranger, but he had wayyyyyy too much fun ogling the dealer at his bachelor party with the other grooms-to-be. He was reconsidering everything.
Iris’ Mom is Chill-Deficient
Um, it’s super awkward when your mom not only tells everyone at the bridal shop that you were so hard up for a marriage you had to go on this TV show, but she broadcasted it on national TV too. Iris’ mom went to say she never thought the day would come and that she considered making billboards and putting out ads for her daughter to find a man. Yikes!
Rock On!
Amber and her mother aren’t the closest, so it was sweet when she showed up and helped her daughter pick out her wedding dress. Mom had some serious 80’s rocker vibes. It wasn’t so much WTF as an overwhelming urge to listen to Aerosmith.
Stripper Fun Or Not
Some of the girls had way too much fun with the strippers at the party (we saw you Amber and Deonna), but Iris was so uncomfortable, stuffy, and uptight. Loosen up, woman!
“If” He Stays?
Matt may not actually stay in Charlotte, which could pose a problem down the road in his new relationship. So he’s not from Charlotte? What about Amber’s job as a teacher and her family? What if she doesn’t want to leave yet? WTF?!
Amber’s Thirsty Friend
Amber might want to watch it for that one friend because she was a bit too excited when she saw Matt walk down that aisle. I’m not saying she was already plotting, but I’m not saying she wasn’t either.
Stepstool, Please!
While it looks like Amber and Matt may work out based on their response to one another, Matt specifically said he didn’t want a short woman. The experts gave this 6-foot infinity pro-basketball player a 5’2 woman he had to break himself in half to kiss at the altar.
X – Rated Dad Jokes
Elizabeth and her dad are close, like, super close — but, no one should be prepared for their dad telling them they hope their new husband doesn’t have a small penis moments before walking them down the aisle. Uh, thanks, dad?
Her Body is Ready
Amber was super happy with her husband and told him so. She admitted that she was ready to jump his bones right then and there. She made a few comments about how kissable his lips are. I don’t think Matt will have a problem getting laid on his honeymoon. Damn girl, do you though!
Center of Attention
I’m assuming the unspoken rule was that all the ladies would wear white when they gathered together, and some of the ladies abided by that rule, but Elizabeth the saucy one that she is had other plans.
No Parents or Family At All?
Family is complicated, but Matt didn’t tell his parents or family that he was marrying a stranger on a TV show, and he also didn’t invite anyone there. There were empty rows on his side and everything. The good news is Amber’s family seems kind and welcoming, but still, it was a WTF moment, for sure!
She Knows Him?!
The previews for the next part suggest that not only does Elizabeth know who her husband is before she gets down that aisle, but she’s not so sure if she’s happy with who it is she sees. Well, that’s awkward! Did they have a bad experience with one another before? Did they date before? We need more information!
