There were many standalone moments or conversations that were a lovely addition to the season, with some of them even holding promise of what should come during The 100 Season 6 of the show.
With a lot left unsaid between characters, it is not only a good idea but a necessary one to focus on all that there wasn’t time for throughout The 100 Season 5 when all attention was on the plot.
If you watch The 100 online, you can enjoy a slideshow that compiles all the best scenes from the season that still hold weight and helps The 100 Season 5 be remembered in a different light.
Indra and Gaia Proving That They Are The Iconic Mother/Daughter Duo That We’ve Been Waiting For Indra and Gaia were this season’s most underrated mother and daughter duo, their relationship with one another was loving and inspiring. The depiction of Indra’s love for her daughter had its moments of emotion but more importantly, it was rooted in fierce thinking.
Indra thought about what choices were necessary to keep her child safe, she prioritized exactly that and it provided an amazing example of a mother doing anything to protect her daughter,
That Platonic Transition That Surpassed Time and Space There is nothing subtle about Clarke looking up into space hoping Bellamy was there and Bellamy looking down to Earth not even knowing that he was looking at Clarke. But this feels like something fans would envision happening throughout the time jump, that fact that it was actually created into such a seamless transition was a lovely surprise.
Monty and Clarke Finding Time To Hang Out The 100 Season 5 struggled the most with allowing its characters to talk instead of having them shape the plot, so it was all about enjoying the small hints of something more. Getting to see Monty and Clarke spend time together, it wasn’t always easy but it was reminiscent of the days when they were working together and becoming a family.
Their little adventure where they discovered the worms was a wonderful pair up, and the fact that Clarke wanted to do better had to play a part in why later Monty and Harper trusted Bellamy and Clarke the most when it came to being woken up by Jordan.
Madi and Clarke Being Soft Sometimes you need to take a break from all the grim plot twists and enjoy the characters on the show caring for one another. Madi and Clarke were the best part of that, with this scene before Madi goes to her training being one of the absolute best.
Octavia Channeling Her Inner Fandom This Octavia and Bellamy fight felt so reminiscent for us because it was almost like it was directly lifted off The 100 Twitter feed. Octavia referenced every argument that fans were making and there is just something very validating, even if it was dropped as quickly as it was picked up.
Zeke and Raven Introducing Us To Comfort Relationship Goals Raven having a rough day means the day must have ended in the letter Y. But in all that chaos it was with Zeke that she managed to find the comfort that she deserved, more importantly, someone looking out for her and her needs.
Zeke’s love for Raven was always such a selfless awareness that she was incredible and should be made aware of that. Even when they were fighting, Zeke was there to listen and help handle the pain that Raven was going through when Abby electrocuted her.
Bellamy and Clarke Back In Hug Action Before anything plot related can happen, Bellamy and Clarke needed to do an obscene amount of hugging while they were still alone. It was actually very brief when you consider the tough season they were going into, and maybe that is the irony in all this.
But even with that in the back of your mind, it felt like watching an intimate moment between two people who clearly were feeling so much and never seem to find the time to actually bask in that.
Emori Putting Herself First Like She Deserves Emori and Murphy breaking up during the time jump was confusing for a while because it wasn’t clear why it happened when they both wanted to be with each other. Then Emori had this cathartic conversation with him, all of which turned into her deciding to put herself first.
It was a healthy approach to a relationship that wasn’t working as they expected, and Emori was truly inspiring in the choices that she made.
Madi Meets Her New Best Friend Bellamy Getting to see Madi and Bellamy meet was on every fan’s mind with The 100 Season 5 returning, and the show delivered right when it was needed most. It is also great when you remember that this was the episode that solidified Bellamy’s dad status with both Madi and his cool new mug.
Charmaine (Literally) Kills It While Pregnant Let that sink in, Charmaine was in a fighting sequence while pregnant and Ivana Milicevic was acting in this scene while also pregnant in real life. There was no question that Charmaine was an actual badass but she reminds us of that consistently throughout The 100 Season 5 which we are really thankful for.
Bellamy and Clarke Looking Ahead Together. The finale was beautiful because with it came pain for the loss of Monty and Harper but also hope for the future. As always, if Bellamy and Clarke are together then there is more of a chance of happiness and survival.
It is a direct parallel to the previous season finale where Bellamy had to face the unknown alone, and it closed the first book within this story exactly how it started. This is the story of Clarke and Bellamy, even if a lot of the time it feels like that is being denied offscreen, the show itself revolves around this image of them holding each other as they look at the next thing that they have to face together.
Monty and Harper Showing Us How To Live Monty and Harper promised to show us how to live, and they did exactly that. Monty saving the day with flowers was perfect and the way that they tag team this successful reveal was a great example of how in sync they always are. Monty and Harper always find a moment to be happy and it is an honor to see every single time.
Bellamy Finding The Line With Octavia Bellamy refused to consider stopping Octavia in any way until Clarke’s life was in danger. Octavia may not have actually planned to harm Clarke but she had already gone too far, which made Bellamy poisoning her a pivotal moment in their relationship.
Bellamy finally stopped making excuses for Octavia and chose to take action to prevent her from causing any more harm.
Zeke Making His First New Friend In Clarke Zeke and Clarke have the potential to be a wonderful friend dynamic, and their first scene together is such obvious proof. He tried to share some of his life with Clarke, not knowing if she was a threat but not wanting her to be treated as such. It also showed us exactly how much we were going to love this new pilot.
Madi Making It Clear That She Shouldn’t Be Underestimated Madi was introduced to us and we all vowed to protect her with our lives. But then she killed a guy who was hurting Clarke, effectively demonstrating that no one should doubt the lengths she would go to so she could protect Clarke.
Jordan Reveals Himself To Some Of His New Family Best. Character. Introduction. Of. All. Time. Jordan not only appeared at the best time, but he also was just a wonderful addition to the show. He embodies Monty and Harper, with clear-cut features that promised hope and this sense of positivity that the show sometimes misses.
Getting to meet Jordan was one of the biggest plot twists within The 100 Season 5, and it is only getting more exciting from here now that we know he is going to be a big part of the next season.
That Time Clarke Was Completely Fine With Bellamy’s Shifting News There is just something about that expression that says Clarke is totally fine and thrilled and ecstatic about the news that Bellamy didn’t seem to find the time to tell her on their six-day journey together. But really, what about that reaction says platonic and not worth sparing another thought?
That Time Clarke Was Still Completely Fine With Bellamy’s Shifting News Here we go again, Clarke is thrilled and excited to see Bellamy with someone else. So much so in fact that when Bellamy felt her looking she looked away so he wouldn’t just how happy she was. It is actually kind of funny when you consider how much of Clarke’s newly explored emotions were rooted in instances like this one.
Indra and Gaia’s Beautiful Parallel Indra and Gaia’s relationship wasn’t simple at first, in fact, Indra wasn’t happy with the path that Gaia chose for herself. She wanted her daughter to be a warrior instead of a flamekeeper, so getting to witness the real pride and respect that Indra had for Gaia in the finale was overpowering.
This was only a look but it said everything, Indra understood the duty that Gaia held and she was going to support it from now on.
Clarke’s Journey Alone On Earth Clarke’s time on Earth alone was heartbreaking, emotionally significant, and highlighted just how much strength the lead of the show had. It is difficult to even imagine trying to survive alone when getting to the people you love feels like a missed opportunity after missed opportunity.
Eliza Taylor took on this role in a way that was stunning and unforgettable because experience Clarke truly on her own is something that changes you.
The Loaded Campfire Conversation The remarkable thing about this scene is how much goes unsaid within the gaps of the conversation, and how it is reshaped once the finale references this again. Bellamy still can’t believe that Clarke survived and asks why not realizing that he confirms to her at that moment that he never heard the radio calls she was sending every single day for six years. Clarke plays off that really well, subtly shutting down because she can’t bring herself to tell Bellamy so she deflects and then leaves to be alone. There is no doubt that all of this deserved more screen time, but this scene accomplished quite a lot with the limitations set on the season and it doesn’t get said enough.
Zeke “Gets Shit Done” Shaw There are characters who talk about getting things done and then there are characters who actually get those things done. Zeke coming through and risking his life for people he barely knew was so in character that is was actually ridiculous how obvious it would be that he’d save the day.
Charmaine Coming At Octavia With The Shade Charmaine had the best dialogue this season and it was mostly the way she delivered it. It could be so easy to write this off as a genuine compliment when even though she admired the way Wonkru followed Octavia, Charmaine was also aware of the weaknesses already forming from all that power.
It was a real thrill getting to witness Charmaine interacting with everyone on the show so far.
Bellamy and Raven Effortlessly Proving There Was A Time Jump Bellamy and Raven’s fully developed partnership exceeded expectations at the beginning of the season because of a scene like this. Raven wanted to stay behind so she could get everyone down safely and Bellamy wasn’t going to let her unless he knew she would find a way down too.
Madi Changing All That Bellamy Thought He Knew Madi was meant to bring Bellamy and Clarke together and that is exactly what she did. It isn’t brought up enough how much Madi’s interactions with Bellamy are marked by the way Clarke told her about him. Madi knows how much Bellamy means to Clarke which is why she trusts him so much and it is why she tries so hard to mend the relationship between those two knowing Clarke won’t herself.
The Soulmates That Plot Murder Together, Stay Together Killing Kara wasn’t the best plan but it was the one that had these platonic soulmates paired up once again for another mission. It was done so in sync that you have to give them credit there, if Bellamy and Clarke want you dead then that is exactly what will happen.
The Bellamy and Harper Hug That Saved Everything Bellamy and Harper are one of the most underrated friendships but luckily we were blessed with even something as small as this. They are adorable together and the support that they clearly managed to build together is truly heartwarming for us.
Raven Being A Gift To Us All There is nothing Raven can’t do and all that she deserves right about now is to be reminded constantly about how amazing she is. Please and thank you!
Bellamy and Clarke Coming Back Together It is obvious that Bellamy finding out just how much Clarke centered her survival on him changed things. It is like everything that Bellamy couldn’t figure out about who Clarke was now clicked into place if he looked at it from the perspective of Clarke clinging to their friendship and the idea that he would return one day.
So even if there was a horribly scarce amount of emotional payoff between almost everyone in the finale, it was scenes like these that made it clear that major revelations like this aren’t just forgotten. In fact, they are being revealed with the expectation that The 100 Season 6 will pick up right where things were left off.
Bellamy Inspiring His New Pal Gaia Bellamy and Gaia developing a friendship felt like a dream that would never come through. But then battle somehow manages to make anything possible, including Bellamy giving Gaia an inspirational speech that inspired her to keep fighting.
Somehow these two exceeded expectations that many didn’t even know had to be created.
Madi Getting To Do Cool Things With Raven There were plenty of interactions that deserved more time dedicated to them, Madi and Raven were definitely one of them because this singular scene was not enough at all. There is something about Madi being really excited to see Raven that makes us want to see so much more of these two just hanging out.
Bellamy and Monty Hurting All Of Us With Their Bond Bellamy and Monty’s friendship was a true bright spot of the season. It was obvious how much they grew to count on one another, always checking in with each other before they made a significant choice for their people.
They also formed an idea of their peaceful future together as a family, something that Monty at least already managed to get. Essentially though, Bellamy and Monty demonstrated a successful growing connection even if it was done offscreen because of the way the characters interacted onscreen.
Gaia and Madi’s Bond It seemed like the worst thing for Madi’s future would be Gaia finding out that she is a nightblood. Meanwhile, Gaia was everything kind and fair that we saw mentioned before. She may be loyal to her beliefs but it almost goes against the way the flame is introduced within the narrative because Gaia is all about choice.
She may believe in this structure of leadership but she won’t force it on anyone, and when Madi needed her to help lead she knew how to advise while also calming her down as well. This all just adds another beautiful layer to Gaia’s character development that we will hopefully get to see more of during The 100 Season 6.
Bellamy and Indra’s Well Earned Respect For One Another One of the brightest surprises from The 100 Season 5 was Bellamy and Indra coming to respect one another in a different light. Before they only had Octavia in common, while this season they bonded in the fighting ring based on their morals aligning with each other.
In a way, these two chose to form this mutual respect for each other and it had the best follow through since that moment which is very promising, to say the least.
Monty and Harper’s Happily Ever After Monty and Harper deserved happiness more than anyone else because they were always trying to find peace. Getting to know that they found that on the ship with their son while finding a way to save their friends is the best legacy for these two.
They showed us what true love was and they proved that there is some good still out there, you just have to make the conscious choice to do better.
Bellamy Being Absolutely Done Octavia sentenced three of the people she said she cared about to the fighting pits and then spent an entire episode asking them to help her figure out a way to stop this as if she didn’t have all the power to do just that.
Getting to see Bellamy display the annoyance that everyone else was feeling, especially after all the time he tried to excuse her behavior, was a small victory and it is a meme that everyone should treasure forever.
Everyone Showing Up To Throw Clarke a Bellamy Intervention This episode and as a result of it, this specific scene was conflicting because of how messy the season itself was. But if you pick apart this scene, you can what it was meant to be at its core.
The focus on Clarke’s emotional state in the second half of the season was lackluster at best, and yet this scene that was dedicated to three separate people calling Clarke out on the mistake that she made leaving the person she waited six years for had the potential to strike the audience more.
Even just considering who was chosen to host this intervention for her speaks volumes, so this scene does deserve to at least be mentioned because it had hints of something really valuable to the narrative.
Emori and Harper’s Natural Friendship Progression Telling the audience that the space group was family now is one thing, showing it is another thing altogether. Emori and Harper finding a second to just talk as if they did a thousand times before was one of the few examples that stand out where it felt like the two truly created a bond during the time jump,
Bellamy Laying It All On The Line For Clarke The expectations for Bellamy and Clarke’s reunion were very high, to say the least, and the show didn’t disappoint with the way that it pushed how much Bellamy was affected by losing Clarke throughout the episode.
This all came together when he returned to Earth to threaten to kill 300 people if Charmaine didn’t let go of Clarke. It is probably safe to say that those two words and the entire cinematography behind this scene made it one of the most iconic on The 100.
Madi and Clarke Being Adorable This reunion was the best one on those desert grounds and we all know it.
When Clarke’s Love For Madi Was Everything A small sneak peek into Clarke and Madi’s time together in the past six years was only solidified by these emotional moments that made us feel more than any real words shared between the two could.
Slytherin Clarke Mode Activated Don’t mess with Madi or else. Clarke effortlessly transitioned from being totally okay with everything to willing to destroy everything in her path to make sure Madi was okay.
That kind of shift wasn’t only based on facial expressions too, it was the way the scene managed to release the now cool energy in that bunker and how little patience Clarke had for Octavia. It was very well done, acting wise and in the way, it reflected the mixed relationships now forming with people reunited again.
Monty Speaking The Actual Truth Ever since the bunker focused episode, it was clear that Octavia was the threat for humanity and for the people trying to change the cycle of destruction around her.
Monty voiced exactly that when Bellamy and Clarke tried to reason why killing Kara was necessary when it was obvious that if Octavia wasn’t in charge none of this would be happening. Trust in Monty is a motto that every character on The 100 deserved to follow.
Harper’s Last Words Losing Harper is still hard to come to terms with, there are truly no words for a character who deserved so much. There was a lot of frustration over Harper not playing a bigger role when it was clear that she wasn’t going to make it to the new planet, and yet that is why her last words are so important.
Jordan is now an extension of Monty and Harper, specifically our love for those characters, which means he must be protected and loved to honor them.
Emori Having All The Strengths Absolutely no one was shocked that Emori is amazing, skilled, and destined for greatness. But finding a moment within the show to confirm that was well appreciated and a highlight for a character that we deserved to see even more of.
Octavia Rightfully Stripping Herself Of Her Power Octavia leading was never a good idea, in fact, her consistently fighting leaders that came before her because she disagreed with the difficult choices that they made was direct foreshadowing for what she would then face herself.
So while the idea of leaders being chosen based on someone’s blood and the ability to accept an overused Flame in their head isn’t ideal, Octavia realizing that she needs to give up was a bigger step than anyone could have anticipated when she was first reintroduced in that bunker.
Murphy Throwing The First Stone Murphy was meant to start a fire but instead, he threw a stone. The 100 isn’t meant to be funny but sometimes these moments just appear out of nowhere.
Niylah and Octavia Being All Romantic This was a small look into a possibly much bigger story, but Niylah’s adoring Octavia with everything in her was a nice distraction. In a way, Niylah forgiving and trusting Octavia even at times when that creates more chaos is a strangely fascinating way to comment on both the structure of Wonkru and the deeper feelings that she started to display for Octavia along the way.
The subtle hints at romance between Octavia and Niylah deserve to keep coming even on the new planet.
What Octavia Could Have Been Octavia was structured as the villain for The 100 Season 5 for eleven episodes straight, her addiction to power was influencing every choice she was making even if it hurt everyone around her.
Getting to see her at possibly one of the darkest moments yet was fascinating and promising since for a while it felt like the narrative would never identify Octavia as the villain in the story.
Charmaine and Kane’s Discover Hope It is almost ironic looking back at Charmaine and Kane planning for a future on Earth when in a few days time all of that would be up in flames. Yet in a way this could be a self-deprecating look at us, we all wanted to believe there could be hope for change and that all became the same old cycle.
Maybe this time Monty’s words will be carried forward and actually force change.
