It’s true. The Big Bang Theory Season 9 had a bit of a rocky start.
There was fighting and heartbreak, and at least one character who drove us totally nuts. However, there was also one of the best episodes the show has ever had, which also brought us a surprisingly romantic moment.
Check out our mid-season report card to see how this season has fared so far!
Best Episode The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Episode 11 was without a doubt the best episode of the season so far. “The Opening Night Excitation” gave us a moment we’d been waiting for but never knew if it would actually come – Sheldon and Amy spent the night together for the first time. It was handled perfectly, and for a funny twist, it was paralleled with the rest of the guys seeing the new Star Wars movie.
(Cliff Lipson / CBS) Worst Episode This season had a rocky start, particularly with The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Episode 2. It took a negative tone as most characters were either angry or sad, and the fight between Leonard and Penny felt like a waste of time.
(Michael Yarish / CBS) Funniest Sheldon Quote Sheldon: Then it’s settled. Amy’s birthday present will be my genitals.
Best Tribute The death of cultural icon Leonard Nimoy was something that The Big Bang Theory needed to address, but it waited a bit before it did so. On The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Episode 7, the show gave tribute to Leonard Nimoy by having his son on the show to do a “documentary” with one of Mr. Spock’s biggest fans: Sheldon. This was also the episode when Sheldon’s friends learned of his plans to propose to Amy.
Character We Could Do Without Stuart used to be a funny addition to the cast, but he’s gone from quirky and comical to downright creepy, particularly in The Big Bang Theory Season 9. So many of the things he says and does are simple more uncomfortable than they are funny.
Favorite Guest Star Bob Newhart as Professor Proton is always fabulous on The Big Bang Theory. He appears to Sheldon in a dream to offer some important advice on The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Episode 11, dressed, of course, as a Jedi.
Biggest Disappointment Penny and Leonard’s wedding. Yes, it was kind of fitting that their friends watched it happen in a very geeky way, and yes, they had the perfect, most romantic vows imaginable for them as a couple. But we were cheated from seeing more of the ceremony. Time that was spent on Sheldon and Amy’s breakup and musings by Stuart took away from something that should have had a lot more attention. The audience deserved more.
Best Way to Meet a Woman With a puzzle, obviously. Sheldon decides to try getting over Amy and find a new girlfriend, so of course he takes that mission to the internet. With the help up of his friends, they come up with a puzzle that only the perfect mate for Sheldon would be able to solve. Unfortunately for the beautiful girl who showed up to meet Sheldon, she was a few minutes late in getting it solved.
Moment That Made Us Laugh Out Loud Sheldon bursting into song while the guys were stranded on the side of the road trying to fix a flat tire was one of the most surprisingly funny moments of The Big Bang Theory Season 9 so far. The song? “We Will Rock You” as Raj and Howard tapped out a beat.
Best Couple Howard and Bernadette may not have the perfect relationship, but they function incredibly well. Bernadette is Howard’s perfect match for a lot of reasons, including the fact that she stands up to him when she needs to. Who knew that the most stable relationship on The Big Bang Theory would be the one that included Howard?
Nerdiest Thanksgiving Tradition Sheldon loves spending Thanksgiving at the oddest of places: the aquarium. He enjoys going for special exhibits and a terrible buffet, and this year, Amy went along with him “as friends.” It was clear from their adventure that they were meant to be, even though they were still broken up at the time.
MVP Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler. She’s fabulous for so many reasons, and she has really had an opportunity to shine in The Big Bang Theory Season 9. From standing up for herself when she needed to most, to her character development, to her hilarious moments, she’s definitely the MVP of this season so far.
(Cliff Lipson / CBS) Most Romantic Moment This one is a no brainer. Sheldon and Amy spent the night together for the first time, neither of them knowing what to expect. They sat it bed together awkwardly as Amy professed she was nervous, but Sheldon told her they could figure it out together. It was perfectly sweet, funny, and awkward all at the same time.
