Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 Spoilers: Matty Needs To Get Her House In Order Before It All Falls Apart

Uh oh, it looks like Madeline Matlock is headed for some hot water, but the call is not from where you might expect. This time, it is coming from inside the house.

Specifically, Matty will get a talking to from her husband about her grandson’s involvement in Madeline’s grand scheme. However, it seems a little bit too late to make a fuss.

Since the start of the Matlock reboot, Madeline’s secret team has consisted of her husband and her grandson. Was there no talk about how things may progress?

Considering how much effort must have gone into planning, they had to cover all possible events and situations, right? We could be coming to our first real snag in Matty’s plan.

Madeline Matlock Is A Woman In Her Seventies During An Era Of AI And Quantum Computers

In the promo for Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, Madeline calls her grandson while he is at school because whatever she is doing is more challenging than she expected.

Granted, nothing she has done thus far has been exactly easy, but she’s done it with all the cleverness and grace of a fox.

Then again, she is a woman in her seventies in a time of AI and quantum computers. She’s allowed to fumble with technology like the rest of us.

On Matlock Season 1 Episode 3, we saw Matty switch out Olympia’s computer for a fake that she dumped coffee on to gain access to the emails and files.

Some of you had quite the field day with that little plot point. One reader pointed out that Olympia’s work computer should have an identifying company code. Also, the IT department shouldn’t have had an issue with the hard drive.

Hopefully, the writers don’t let that slip through the cracks too long. Another reader pointed out that Olympia’s laptop couldn’t be connected to other devices.

If that is the case, one of Olympia’s wearables or even her phone could alert her that her computer is being used. The Matlock audience has this series on lock with all the missed details.

“This Place Is A Viper’s Nest”

It’s possible that whatever was on Olympia’s laptop wasn’t enough information, and now Madeline may have to dig deeper into Jacob & Moore’s records. If that is the case, heaven help her.

Madeline hasn’t had the easiest time maneuvering around the office without coming under suspicion.

First, there was Mrs. B on Matlock Season 1 Episode 2. She clocked Matty’s questions as suspicious the moment Madeline inquired.

Then there is Shae. My goodness, that jury consultant just about looked straight through Matty right down into her soul with the way she stared Matty down every chance she had in the previous episode.

If that is not bad enough, it seems that something will put Olympia in a bad mood in the next episode.

Right off the bad at the start of the promo, we hear Olympia say, “This place is a viper’s nest.” Those are some heavy-hitting words to refer to your place of work.

Granted, the promo is short, and Olympia could be talking about anyone or anything without context. She could even just be quoting the case of the week.

Matlock Is Slowly But Surely Revealing How The Writers Are Choosing Cases

The official synopses for Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 reads: “Olympia tasks Matty with getting close to their client, who is fighting for justice in the wrongful death of his wife.”

The case for the next episode pivots from the previous ones. While the first two episodes dealt with different situations, they mainly revolved around racial profiling.

The third brought a case concerning sexual harassment in the workplace as well as the treatment of women in general. Each case so far has touched on a significant societal issue.

However, this may be the first case that deals with a specific kind of crime that doesn’t speak to a greater issue. Then again, “wrongful death” is not exactly uncommon.

It’s also possible that the writers are choosing cases that will give Madeline (Kathy Bates) a different perspective or insight into an issue.

In “A Guy Named Greg,” Madeline gave a heart-wrenching speech during her closing comments about the sexual harassment she endured in her earlier years.

It was an incredibly moving scene where Madeline divulged vulnerable details about things that happened to her because of a guy named Greg.

Of course, Kathy Bates didn’t just deliver an epic monologue. When her lip quivered during her closing comments, you could feel how the realization of how bad things were for women so many years ago finally hit her.

Papa Kingston Is None Too Happy With Miss Madeline Matlock

It was the same situation on Matlock Season 1 Episode 1 with the prostitute who turned her life around after being strung out on drugs. Madeline had a close personal connection to that case because the woman reminded Matty of her daughter.

So, whatever the details of this next case are, it’ll likely stir something within Madeline and connect to her on a deeper level beyond another work case.

Although, Madeline might need to worry about getting her house in order before she loses that work-life balance. Papa Kingston did not seem too pleased at the end of the promo.

He can be heard scolding Matty for taking their grandson out of school. I say “scolding,” but the promo is likely edited to stir up some drama.

I find it adorable that Madeline can so easily rely on her grandson. That said, it’s not healthy for him to be this caught up in Matty’s scheme.

It was cute at first that he was so invested in honoring his mother’s memory, but he’s still in his formative years. He needs stability and familiarity.

In that regard, I can see where Madeline’s husband is coming from. The kid has already lost his mom. He doesn’t need to see his grandmother get arrested for fraud.

Also, not to completely change the subject, but where is the dad? Did I miss that? Please tell me in the comments if we’ve already covered where the dad is.

Granted, that could be reasonably easy to answer since Madeline’s daughter had been on a downward spiral for a while.

However, if you read the article about the Matlock twists, you know we don’t have to worry about loose ends when the creator has been vocal about the big mystery being wrapped by the end of Matlock Season 1.

So, all my eagle-eyed viewers, we’ll just have to keep an eye out for any more possible clues and missed details.
