Talk about a fake out!
The start of Queen of the South Season 4 Episode 8 had me believing that Javier had been arrested for Rene's murder.
I spent over half the episode waiting for the ax to fall before I realized there was another plausible explanation.
Of course, just because he didn't end up in prison for beating the arrogant little jerk to death doesn't mean that Javier will make it out.
Marcel: Murdering a witness under Federal protection, it’s a suicide mission.
Teresa: I know.
Javier: I’ll do it.

Would Javier have volunteered for this if he wasn't feeling profoundly guilty for killing Rene and lying to Teresa?
I'm not sure. He's a loyal soldier, but the odds are stacked against him, even more so now that other inmates are trying to kill him and the informant has seen his face.

Can he get near the guy, kill him, and then somehow still be released? I don't see how but I hope it's possible.
Then again, staying behind bars may wind up having nothing to do with murdering the informant and everything to do with Emilia.
I would have thought Javier would have given Emilia more of a plan to work from than just "run" but I guess he may have thought the less he knew about her whereabouts, the safer she'd be.
Emilia felt so lost and scared that she called Boaz, but I'm curious as to what Boaz thinks. Had Emilia broken up with him or had she just decided to start life anew in the U.S.?

Either way, Boaz seemed thrilled to welcome her home and gave no indication that he knows she's been sleeping with his cousin.
And I can only imagine the guilt Javier must have felt when Boaz offered to go to war with Teresa to protect him.
Boaz: Come back to Mexico, primo, I’ll protect you. Stop with the bullshit. Leave this shit behind. We’re family, and if Teresa wants a war, I’ll give it to her.

Granted, it doesn't take much to pull Boaz into a fight, but the offer obviously meant something to both him and Javier.
Watching Emilia spring from her vehicle and run from the police was like watching an accident you cannot stop.
It could have been a simple traffic stop where she would have gotten a ticket for a busted tail light. If she had kept calm she might have walked away.
Instead, Emilia panicked and there's little doubt she won't be questioned about the murder at the tow yard now. Somehow, I don't foresee her standing up for long under interrogation, and that doesn't bode well for Javier.
Javier's connection to Rene's murder isn't even one of the problems Teresa is aware of.
El Gordo appeared to have a close connection to his hitman, Ishmael because the moment he found out the man had died under Teresa's watch, he sent two more men to kill her.

Although Pote and Ishmael may share the same job title, Pote can't abide killing unnecessarily and Ishmael murdering the mail carrier without a moment's thought got under his skin.
So much so that Pote jumped at the chance to take Ishmael down when he turned on Teresa.
Ishmael: What happened to the no collateral damage?
Pote: Ask the mailman’s widow.

Despite an FBI informant threatening Teresa's empire, Boaz willing to turn on her for his cousin, El Gordo sending his hit squad, and possible trouble with Oksana, there were still some bright spots in this installment.
It was a relief to hear Tony admit to Teresa that he knows Pote killed his father. The kid can only hold onto that kind of anger for so long before he explodes.
Tony: You have me living with my father’s killer.
Teresa: Tony?
Tony: You’re no better than the people you say you’re protecting me from. I’m going back to Mexico and I never want to see you again.

But Tony had no idea what led to his father's death. Guero and his father got greedy and stole from their employer. When you work for a drug cartel, they don't arrest you for that, they kill you. Those are the rules.
Teresa did her best to explain that to him, even pointing out that at one time it was Pote's job to kill her too, but now he'd lay down his life to save her.
Teresa trusts Pote with her life and Tony's but it may take Tony some time to accept that if he ever does.
And Pote realizes that.
Pote: The other day he thought I fell asleep here on the couch. He pulled out a gun on me.
Kelly Anne: He what? What did you do?
Pote: Nothing, I just lay here waiting for him to pull the trigger but he couldn’t, not yet, at least.
Kelly Anne: So you were just going to let him kill you.
Pote: All my life I’ve lived by the sword, I figure I’ll die by it too.

As Hemky Madera pointed out in our exclusive interview, Pote is a different kind of hitman.

Pote knows the odds of him living a long life, and dying in his sleep are minuscule. That said, he'll fight for his life but he'll also sacrifice himself to save the people he cares about.
But Tony is a bit of a different case.
Pote would give his life for Tony's but he'd also stand there and take a bullet from Tony, he almost did that night on the sofa.
Pote has accepted that Tony may owe him that and he may meet his end that way, but it didn't sit well with Kelly Anne.
Pote: I took his father away from him. If someday he has the courage to pull the trigger, it’s okay by me. I’ve made my peace with it.
Kelly Anne: No, that’s not okay with me. You don’t get to go around making crazy decisions without even considering the people who love you.
Pote: You love me? I don’t deserve that.
Kelly Anne: Yes, you do. You are the kindest, sweetest man I’ve ever met.
Pote: I’m also a murderer.
Kelly Anne: Yeah. Well, so am I.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that Kelly Anne was once the abused wife who murdered her husband, not that I blame her for it as the guy would have killed both her and Teresa if he had lived.
Kelly Anne reminded Pote that no one in this life is innocent and that they deserve love if they're lucky enough to find it.
But how long can that last?
With so many people coming to take out Teresa and her crew, will any of them ever be safe?
