I saw a woman today who almost killed her baby because she didn't trust us. And I thought, "How can we encourage people to trust us more if we don't show them trust first?"

When surgeons burn out, it always starts with stress. Then a call goes the wrong way, an unlucky result. They get in their own heads, and that's when the hesitation starts, the unsteady hands. And once your there, it's a very hard road back.

It is certainly true that a very few patients can be dangerous. But the overwhelming majority are...harmless and in fact very grateful for help. Only they can't get that help if you come to work scared.
