Since then I’ve been wondering, like, why this officer felt that he could abuse me and just walk away and the only answer I can think of is this cop felt his dignity, his life, was worth more than mine. But I won’t allow my fear, my silence to protect this man anymore. My abuser’s name is Officer Randall Orson. You see the real problem if we build this prison is that it tells cops like Randall Orson that it’s okay to do what he did. The real problem is if they build that jail, the prison, they’re gonna fill it. The real cost of the prison isn’t in dollars and cents, okay. Prisons aren’t made of bricks and mortar they’re made of bodies and blood. If we allow this, St. Jo becomes another place that puts hope in cages and continues to systematically destroy the lives of black and brown people. But we can stop that. I truly believe that we, we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
