Riverdale Season 1 Quotes
Archie: I tried to help my dad, Ronnie.
Veronica: Archie, what did you say?
Archie: I told him not to sign the divorce papers, and I don't even know why. It's not like I even want them to get back together. Veronica, why do I keep doing this? I keep wrecking things.
Veronica: Welcome to my life. Every day I feel like there's a new secret, a new lie about my parents about what they've done. I don't want my mom to be guilty, Archie. I really want that to be a lie.
Betty: Why are you getting so upset? It's just a party, Jug.
Jughead: It's not just a party. It's the fact that you don't know, or even care, that this is the last thing I would want. You did this for you to prove something.
Betty: To prove what?
Jughead: You're a great girlfriend? I don't know. Doesn't it ever occur to you how different we are, like on a cellular DNA level? You're a straight-A student, a cheerleader. For God sakes, you're the perfect girl-next-door.
Betty: I hate that word.
Jughead: I'm the damaged, loner outsider from the wrong side of tracks. Betty, come on, who are we kidding?! We're on borrowed time.
Betty: I should've told you about Chuck, but I lied. And instead threw you this party you didn't want.
Jughead: Why did you?
Betty: Something is very...very wrong with me. Like, there's this darkness in me that's overwhelming. Sometimes I don't know where it comes from, but I think that's what makes me do things.
Cheryl: Secrets & Sins, it's like Truth or Dare in which we own our truths by telling it like it is. I'll start the game with...Veronica Lodge.
Cheryl: Let's begin with the day you and your mob wife of a mother came to town for a so called fresh start. Tell us Veronica, what's so fresh about defiling Archie Andrews in a closet?
Veronica: That was your doing...
Cheryl: Moving on! To dear Daddy Lodge, isn't it true that your father, from prison, illegally purchased the drive-in land? Which makes me wonder, what else is he doing from behind bars?
Veronica: Well, I can't speak for my father, but I can think of someone with a very dirty secret. Specifically, Cheryl killing her very own brother.
Cheryl: Everyone knows how much I loved my brother.
Veronica: Exactly. But did you love him maybe in ways a sister shouldn't love a brother? And as you got older, Jason started to think it was strange, unnatural. So he chose Polly over you, so you shot him between the eyes with one of your father's many hunting rifles.
Kevin: This is riveting. I. Can't. Breathe.
Veronica: Ethel, I meant what I said. I'm sorry, Ethel. For everything my family did to yours.
Ethel: It's not your fault what your dad did, and you were there for me when no one else was. More than once.
[Motions to seat next to her]
Ethel: Seats not taken if you want it.
[Veronica sits and Jughead's voiceover begins]
Jughead: It seems that for Veronica, the sins of the father will remain simply that.
Archie: Cheryl, you okay?
Cheryl: What did my dad say to you? That I'm a trainwreck? Jason was the golden boy, but me...people hate me, Archie. At school, that's fine, whatever, but this is my family.
Archie: Forget them, Cheryl. Forget what they think. I think you're awesome.
Cheryl: Oh Archie. Sometimes I think you may be the only decent person left in Riverdale. The only person who doesn't want something from me or doesn't want me to apologize for who I am...or what I want.
[She kisses Archie]
Betty: Mom...Archie, he talked to Polly. She's okay, Mom. She didn't choose the Blossoms over us, she's actually there to spy on them.
[Sniffles and drinks]
Alice: You know, when I went after this story, I thought in the back of my mind, "What if..what if this is finally the time she doesn't come back?"
Betty: She will, Mom! Right now, she's our woman on the inside. We're going to write this story.
Jughead: Come write with us at the Blue and Gold.
Alice: The school newspaper?!
Jughead: Yea, it's what we are, but I'm pretty sure our annual operating budget is bigger than the Register's.
Archie: Val! Wait...you were right about being bought and taking shortcuts. After last night, I'm done with the Blossoms.
Valerie: Archie, I'm done with you. Ever since we've started dating, you've ignored me. You've ditched me.
Archie: Val, please! Let me make it up to you.
Valerie: Sorry, Archie, but unlike you, I won't be bought.
[Puts in earbuds and runs off]
Mr. Jones: The heat is on, the cops are coming around. This is our insurance, in case everything goes to hell. Figuratively. Stash it and keep it safe.
[Throws bag to Joaquin]
Mr. Jones: How's it going with the Keller kid?
Joaquin: It's just good, things are legit.
Mr. Jones: Right on. We're going to need that inside line with the sheriff.
[Silence and stare]
Mr. Jones: What? You've got a problem?
Joaquin: He likes me.
Mr. Jones: For real? [Scoffs] Ah, you're breaking my heart. We've all got a part to play.
Alice: You must be loving this, Hermione. Providing sanctuary to my daughter. Asking me here to...what...gloat?
Hermione: I asked you here because I'm trying to help. So what is your plan for Polly? What do you want?
Alice: I want my daughter back. I want my family back together.
Hermione: Then it's time to face the facts.
Alice: Hermione, Polly is a teenager. She hasn't even finished high school, the father of her baby has been murdered. You want to play house with her and throw her a baby shower? Fine. But the very next day, all of those things will still be true. And she's supposed to...what...raise a child?!
Hermione: Mothers do it every day. We did it. Come to the shower, be there for Polly, help her. Otherwise, you're going to regret it for the rest of your life.
Nana Blossom: The specter reads the baby's aura. It predicts the sex.
Cheryl: Nana has dementia and gypsy blood.
[Dangles the crystal]
Nana Blossom: Oh!
Polly: What? Is my baby okay?!
Nana Blossom: Babies. It's twins. One of each.
Betty: This is occultism at its most ludicrous.
Cheryl: Oh Polly, come stay with us at Thorn Hill!
Penelope: Cheryl's invitation is...genuine. Thorn Hill's gates will always be open to you. The child would want for nothing. You would want for nothing.
Alice: [Sighs] Do you think you can just waltz in here with a bed bug-infested Trojan horse, wave a blank check around, and steal my daughter?
Penelope: I didn't think you wanted her, or else, why would she be exiled like some pariah?
Alice: To keep her away from your family!
Penelope: Oh...and not because you're ashamed? Why is your own daughter not living with you?
Alice: She's not gonna step foot in that twisted, poisonous house of yours!
Cheryl: She should be so lucky.
Betty: Cheryl, that's not helping.
Penelope: She'd do a lot better there than with you.
Alice: How dare you!
