Recap

Danny sits in an orange jumpsuit in a cell, obviously jumpy. He screams at the guard who brings him to his lawyer. His voice is sharp and jarring.

We go back to Danny playing Scrabble with his mother. She is on a ventilator and looks to be on hospice. They have a nice repoire and he tells her she can finish her sewing project.

The nurse, Allison, comes in and the dog barks viciously at her. She brought baked goods and mentions fostering a rescue--hence the dog barking. He leaves and looks back at his dad, John, and Allison standing too close together.

Danny leaves with his brother and mentions he doesn't trust Allison despite her glaring attempts to seem like a good person.

He lashes out at a classmate who inquires about his mother's health and makes friends with a new girl in school. He confides in her and finds out that she lost her parents to a drunk driver.

Later, he goes to see his mom and she is struggling. Allison and John struggle with her and she is in distress. Danny yells at her to give her more morphine.

John requests the boys come in to say goodbye. Danny has a tense interaction with Allison and then walks into the room to say goodbye to his mom. His brother, Matthew, cries in the background.

Danny lets her know he finished her sewing project.

They bury his mother and Danny glares at Allison while the preacher is speaking.

Danny sleeps fitfully hearing his mother's voice and wakes with a start. He walks into her bedroom--the hospital bed is now gone-- and looks around. Outside, he sees Allison and his dad kissing in the car.

In the present, Danny meets with his lawyer and a forensic psychologist. He refuses to speak with the psychologist and shoves him when he approaches. Danny is forceably removed.

Danny misses a month of school and his teacher advises John that he was having issues before his mother died. His mother knew he was struggling but protected Danny. The teacher explains the loss of his mom can make an existing condition worse. Overwhlemed, Danny runs out.

Leanna checks on him outside and he confides in her again. She understands grief  and asks him to stay in touch.

John tries to talk to Danny and lets him know he has a leave of absence from school and that he wants him to get some counseling. Danny confronts him about Allison and John comes clean to both boys.

John says their relationship with their mom was over and that he and Allison are in love.

Allison moves into the house and they share an awkward finner. Danny is confrontational and stares at Allison. She wants to be apart of the family. She addresses the awkwardness and says it means a lot to be there with them. John tells them she is no longer working as a hospice nurse.

Allison catches Danny watching her put on lotion.

Danny confides in Leanna and she tells him to cut Allison some slack.

At dinner, he compliments the food and asks her about her background. She tells about how her dad had a farm until he lost it because of an addiction and that her mother wasn't in the picture.

She offers to walk the dog.

John comes home and the boys tell him they had a good dinner. Danny gets pain in his side

and Allison runs in screaming. The dog was allegedly hit by a car on their walk. She is distraught and Matthew cries.

Danny accuses her of killing the dog and his mother and then collapses in pain.

At the hospital, John tells Danny that nothing is physically wrong with him. He confronts him about what Danny said about Chester and mom. He is concerned about his mental health. John tells him about his schizophrenic uncle and that they will get him help.

Danny googles Schizophrenia and overhears Allison and John talking about him.

The next morning, Allison comes to speak to him. She brings him breakfast with special ingredients for his belly.

He apologizes for his outburst and she apologizes as well.  She lets him know she is available to talk anytime.

He believes the oatmeal is poisoned and leaves to have it tested. He meets with Leanna and begs her to help him get it tested. He gets aggressive in his pleas and she runs off afraid.

At dinner, he tries to swap dinners with his father but Allison insists he keep his plate.  He starts to shove food in a plastic bag for evidence. His dad confronts him about his behavior and Danny shoves his dad and grabs a knife. Allison calls 911.

He yells he will prove she is a killer and runs into his parent's room. In the closet, he searches for something. His dad breaks into the room and tries to calm him down. He begs him to put the knife down. Pleads that Mom would want him to be happy.

Danny rushes Allison and stabs her in the stomach. The police tackle  him to the ground as she bleeds out.

His lawyer tells him no one will believe him and he will go to prison for a long time. She wants him to submit to a evaluiation or have a competency hearing.

She brings in his brother who begs him to go get evaluated.

In court, he agrees to mental evaluation. Allison sits with his father in the courtroom.

Six months later, he is in a mental hospital and Allison comes to se him. She lets him know that she forgives him, but his dad passed away after their honeymoon. He asks for his brother and she tells Danny that Matthew can't come because he's been sick with stomach pains. He tries to attack her and demands to see his brother.

Guards grab him and pin him to the floor as she leans over him and tells him that he's safe now.
