Recap

Back in 1945, Reinhardt began testing the alien artifact on innocent villagers. The experiments did not go well.

Most of the test subjects died quickly until a young woman was brought in and forced to touch the Obelisk. The artifact did not kill her, instead it began to glow. Reinhardt was determined to get to the bottom of what made her special. "Discovery requires experimentation and this experiment will take time" the Nazi said.

In present day, the Doctor assures Whitehall the "diviner" (or Obelisk to us) can kill, but only to protect itself. He informs Whitehall that taking the artifact to specific hidden city will grant the holder access to a temple. What's inside this temple?

Coulson and his team head to Hawaii and later Australia in an attempt to map the earth via satellites and locate this mysterious city. Skye is worried about what they might find, but Coulson tells her they need to find the city before HYDRA does.

Before leaving Coulson tasked Bobbi with interrogating Ward's gift, HYDRA agent Sunil Bakshi. She worked hard to extract information on Whitehall.

Agents May, Simmons and the team manage to locate Agent Carter's original file on Reinhardt. Naturally, Simmons recognizes Whitehall's picture from her time undercover and realizes Reinhardt and Whitehall are the same person. How is it he has not aged?

Flashbacks to 1945 tells us that Reinhardt was interrogated by Agent Peggy Carter of the SSR. While generally uncooperative, Reinhardt does share the Obelisk's story with Agent Carter. Supposedly stars fell from the heavens and blue angels appeared with a gift for all mankind meant to save the world. Agent Carter chooses to lock the monster away for life so the villain and his stories will be forgotten.

The Doctor corrects Whitehall's story, stating that the blue aliens came to end mankind sparing only a select few.

Grant Ward escaped last week and had his sites set on his brother, Senator Christian Ward. The highly trained operative easily takes out the Senator's security team and abducts his brother. He takes him back to the old family well and forces his older brother to dig it up.

Once uncovered, Grant threatens to throw Christian in the well unless he shares the truth about the event that took place there when they were kids. The Senator finally confesses he forced Grant to push their younger brother into the well.

While working to triangulate the location of the city Coulson's team is ambushed by HYDRA. Tripp is wounded in the standoff, but the Doctor appears and tells Coulson how to save his agent in exchange for the information. Also, he breaks the news the Obelisk has something inside.

Now that Coulson has located the mysterious city, it appears both S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA will make their way there for a massive confrontation.

Whitehall meets with Ward who wishes to return to HYDRA. A news report informs us Ward killed his family, setting their home on fire. The Doctor joins them after his encounter with Coulson. Ward assures them he's an asset having spent time with Coulson's team.

Things are more complicated than they seem though, as the Doctor's target is actually Whitehall. You see, after his release from prison an elderly Whitehall came face to face with that same woman from 1945. Somehow she had not aged a day.

Whitehall tortured and ultimately killed her in the name of science. He managed to unlock her secret of eternal youth.

The woman in question was none other than Skye's mother and her father (the Doctor) is hell-bent on vengeance.
