The final nine on American Idol could choose pretty much any song this week, as the show dubbed it "popular download" night.

A few singers struggled with the broad concept, however, as Anoop Desai put on a lame Usher impression; and Matt Giraud attempted to sound more like The Fray than himself.

So, who stood out? Adam Lambert, of course. His rendition of "Play That Funky Music" was as fresh as ever.

We also liked the performances of Danny Gokey (full of passion), Allison Iraheta (how is she only 16?!?) and Kris Allen (cool, unique arrangement). Here's a rundown of all the artists and their selections:
