Recap

American Idol's finalists tackled 11 of Billboard's No. 1 hits, which gave them free rein over a lot of things.

Lee DeWyze started strong, honoring the late Alex Chilton with the Box Tops' "The Letter."

The judges raved when Crystal Bowersox channeled Janis Joplin for "Me and Bobby McGee."

Save for Simon Cowell, they also praised Siobhan Magnus' show-closing "Superstition."

Beyond that, though, they couldn't find much to get excited about.

Paige Miles and Tim Urban had two of the season's worst performances with "Against All Odds" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."

If fans stepped up their voting to save them, some of the evening's mediocre performers, Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia and Didi Benami, could be in danger too.

Last night's best:

Crystal Bowersox, "Me and Bobby McGee"

Lee DeWyze, "The Letter"

Michael Lynche, "When a Man Loves a Woman"

Siobhan Magnus, "Superstition"

In danger:

Tim Urban, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

Paige Miles, "Against All Odds"
