Recap

Timmy enters the store to applause from the staff. Eliza informs him that he got nominated for an Itsy Bizzie -- the Iron Creek small business awards.

Connie notes how she and Raul got nominated for an Itsy Bizzie some time ago for their tuxedo shop. Eliza informs Timmy that the prize is $5,000 for the winner.

Timmy doesn’t believe he has a shot at winning, but Eliza encourages him to try, subtly hinting that he needs the money. Timmy reassures her that everything is fine.

The staff discuss what they would do with $5000. Carlos would buy a new camera, and Connie would bail her sister out of prison. Hannah says she wouldn’t want the money, fearing it would dramatically change her life.

In the back alley, Percy offers Timmy half a meatball sub as a peace offering. He reasons that he can’t just bail his friends out all the time.

Timmy says he understands the financial situation but is frustrated at Percy for handling it in a cowardly way. Timmy assures Percy he will get the money somehow, perhaps through winning the Itsy Bizzie.

Percy plays cool about not getting an Itsy Bizzie nomination himself. When Timmy returns to the store, Kayla confronts her dad, remarking how he’s handling the disappointment better than she expected.

Eliza asks Timmy why he told her about the eviction if he didn’t want her help. She apologizes for bringing it up in front of everyone but tells him she thinks he can win, which is why she nominated him. Timmy says he also nominated himself. He’s worried he’ll disappoint her, but she assures him he won’t. She thinks he’s got a great human interest story.

Connie tells Timmy that the Chamber of Commerce is sending someone to interview Timmy, so he better get cleaned up — with a makeover!

Connie and Eliza take Timmy to Rene, the flirty dog groomer, who will give him a haircut.

Hannah heads into the breakroom, where Carlos is studying accounting. Hannah fills a nearly empty peanut butter jar and starts to shake it. Carlos realizes what she’s doing and is grossed out at her cheapness.

Hannah eats some of her watery peanut butter, and Carlos urges her to splurge on something to treat herself. She says she’ll go to the nail salon.

Timmy returns with a fetching new hairstyle. The camera crew shows up. Eliza and Connie give him conflicting advice on how to present himself.

Timmy puts on a confident business mogul persona as the interview gets underway.

Carlos accompanies Hannah to the nail salon, and they go through the different shades of polish.

After the interview, Eliza assures Timmy he doesn’t need to change himself for the Itsy Bizzies, but Tommy insists he needs to act like a professional to be perceived as one. Connie announces that the interview has gone viral (even though he has only gained one follower).

Connie tells Timmy he needs to stay focused on winning and give gift bags to the voters. Timmy suggests inviting the voters to “an elegant evening at Blockbuster.”

At the nail salon, Hannah purchases three bottles of nail polish. Carlos is disappointed they aren’t getting mani-pedis. The salon owner guilt-trips Hannah, and Hannah pays with a gift certificate.

Connie and Timmy return with supplies from the party store. Percy shows up, gloating over Timmy for having such a small business. Timmy “digs the knife in,” reminding Percy that he’s evicting his friend. Timmy and Connie agree that they need candles, and Eliza worries that all these decorations will obscure Blockbuster’s nostalgic charm.

The event is in full swing. Timmy mingles and schmoozes. Carlos and Eliza request that they turn up the light s bit since people can’t see the DVD covers. Carlos and Eliza remark to each other how different Timmy is behaving, and it’s not a good look.

Carlos catches Hannah in the breakroom washing the plastic party cups. He calls her out on her cheapness again. She defends herself, saying money was tight growing up, and she learned to be frugal. He says she is wasting her life, and she says she is planning for her future, asking how it is so different from him studying accounting.

Kayla checks in on her dad, remarking how it must be hard for him to see Timmy’s success. Percy admits that he’s a little jealous, and Kayla laughs in his face.

While serving a customer, Connie realizes that the computers are down. She finds Timmy, who blows her off, and finds more guests to socialize with. Eliza confronts Connie, who admits that she pushed Timmy too hard to be something he wasn’t.

Someone knocks a rack over, candles spill, and a shelf goes up in flames. People panic and leave the party. Timmy grabs a fire extinguisher and puts the fire out.

Outside, the fireman calls for the owner, and Timmy tells them it’s him. Carlos searches for Hannah, and Eliza tells him she went to the bar for a drink.

Hannah sits at the bar with a glass of water. Carlos enters and sits down beside her. The bartender brings over a basket of shrimp nachos. Hannah tells Carlos that she gained a new perspective when the store caught fire -- tomorrow is never promised.

Quickly, Hannah confesses that she came for a drink, but the nachos were cheaper, so she got them instead. He apologizes for projecting his insecurities onto her, and that he hates accounting, but it’s difficult as the child of an immigrant to have dreams of his own.

Together, they dig into the shrimp nachos (unfortunately, the shrimp is frozen).

Eliza finds Timmy in his office, informing him the Itsy Bizzies have blacklisted him, but at least the fire department isn’t going to fine him.

He apologizes for getting out of control. He says he will sell his car to cover the rent for the next few months while he figures something out. She says he’s the real winner in her eyes, and offers to buy him a drink.

As they walk through the wreckage of the store, Eliza gets a phone call from Aaron, and she answers it. As she hangs up, Timmy asks to take a rain check on the drink. Eliza leaves.

Timmy finds Percy in the parking lot. Percy apologizes. Timmy says he will get him the rent, but he just wants to go for a drink with his best friend. They hug it out and head to the bar.
