Danny has nightmares about the serial killer he shot and killed, Thomas Wilder. The Attorney General’s office is reopening Danny’s shooting of Thomas Wilder because Wilder recorded all of his phone conversation with Danny. On more than one of them, Danny threatens to kill Wilder.
Nicky is called to testify and confirms that when Wilder was holding her hostage, Danny threatened to kill him. When Danny testifies, he shows the jury what it was like to stand across from Wilder who claimed to have a gun behind his back. Later the Grand Jury chooses not to indict Danny.
John Marino is shot and killed at his restaurant. Danny and Baez pick up the case. His wife said he was paying “insurance” money to “Round Face Bob” of the Armenian mob. They cut off his finger the week before when he threatened to stop paying and now he’s dead.
One of Marino’s employees witnessed the shooting but refuses to identify Bob. Bob abducts him anyway and shoves him in an airtight metal barrel so he can suffocate to death. Danny and ESU arrive to arrest Bob and save the man before he dies.
Frank goes to the dedication of a street sign for Martin, a cop killed in the line of duty 11 years ago. Martin’s son, Louis, is now going through the police academy. Martin’s widow, Grace, asks Frank to make sure he doesn’t graduate, by any means necessary.
Frank wrestles with what to do about Grace’s request. He speaks with Louis, who convinces him that he’s dedicated to being a cop and understands the realities of the job. Grace is furious with Frank when he tells her he won’t flunk Louis out of the academy.
Jamie and Eddie are called to the scene of a teenage girl, Sophie, who was hit by an SUV driven Congressman Russ Anderson. The Congressman refuses to take a breathalyzer and says he’s having chest pains. They take him to the hospital where Jamie must get a court order for a blood alcohol test.
When the congressman’s blood alcohol level comes back well over the legal limit, his assistant suddenly says he was driving, even though Sophie’s father saw the congressman behind the wheel.
Jamie has both of the SUV’s airbags tested for DNA and finds the congressman’s DNA on the driver’s side airbag. Jamie and Eddie arrest him at a press event.
