Buffy stakes a vampire in the graveyard and Giles discovers a ring on the ground. The Master is preparing for the arrival of "The Anointed One"; a great warrior for him who will lead Buffy into peril.

The ring belongs to The Order of Aurelius.

Owen, a cute and shy boy, enters the library to find a book by Emily Dickinson. He's surprised to see Buffy there; Buffy is attracted to him and wants to read up on the author.

Buffy goes to sit with Owen at lunch and collides with Cordelia. Cordelia invites Owen to come to The Bronze with her later at night, but he invites Buffy to come instead. Buffy wants to attend; however, Giles needs her to patrol for a prophecy. Nothing happens on patrol.

Vampires attack a shuttle bus heading into Sunnydale. A massacre ensues and everyone is murdered.

Buffy discovers Cordelia dancing with Owen at The Bronze. Cordelia is getting all handsy with him. She leaves in disappointment.

The next day at school, Owen invites Buffy on an official date to The Bronze. She accepts and he gives her his watch so that she will remember the time to meet up.

Willow and Xander help Buffy prep for her date. Xander is jealous and tries to throw her off her game; he even spies on her. Giles arrives to warn Buffy about the prophecy, but she has a date with Owen instead. She goes on her date.

Owen and Buffy are hitting it off on their date. Cordelia tries to butt in; her ploy doesn't work and she leaves.

Giles is ambushed by vampires at the cemetery. He barricades himself in a lab while Willow and Xander get help from Buffy.

Angel warns Buffy of The Anointed One. Xander, Willow and Buffy head to the funeral home after Buffy kisses Owen. However, Owen follows them and joins their group.

Buffy finds Giles and leads the others to an office to hide. A vampire rises from an observation room; he breaks down the glass to hunt down the group.

Owen is knocked out while trying to protect Buffy. Buffy, in anger, fights the vampire and throws him into a crematorium. Owen survives with a nasty bump on his head.

The next day at school, Owen asks Buffy out on another date. He liked the thrill and danger of nearly dying. Buffy turns him down to save his life.

The Anointed One joins The Master in the cavern. It was Colin, the little boy from the bus shuttle.
