The Scoobies search for an answer to Buffy's problem, but there is no answer.

Giles visits the Sunnydale Arms and finds the body of the dead Watcher.

Buffy is cornered by the two vampires and makes a run for it down an alley. Giles saves her in town. He reveals the truth about the test to her; she is furious at him and wants Cordelia to drive her home.

The vampire at the Sunnydale Arms is Zachary Craig, a serial killer who targeted women.

Zachary kidnaps Joyces and uses her as bait. He leaves behind a polaroid of them together.

Quentin, the leader of the Watchers Council, informs Giles that Buffy has started the test. She's entered the Sunnydale Arms searching for her mother.

Buffy evades both of the vampires in search of Joyce. She finds the room of photos and steals the pills from the vampire.

Zachary takes the pills in the basement and drinks the water. However, Buffy switched out the water for holy water, which burned him from the inside out.

Quentin tells Buffy that she passed the test. Giles, on the other hand, failed the test and has been fired by the Watchers Council.

Willow is shocked over Giles being fired, and Xander fails at opening up a jar of peanut butter for Buffy.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 12 Quotes

Giles: You have to listen to me. Because I've told you this, the test is invalidated. You will be safe now, I promise you. Now, whatever I have to do to deal with Kralik... and to win back your trust...
Buffy: You stuck a needle in me. You poisoned me.
[Cordelia walks into the library]
Cordelia: What's going on? Oh, God. Is the world ending? I have to research a paper on Bosnia for tomorrow, but if the world's ending, I'm not gonna bother.
Giles: You can't walk home alone, Buffy. It isn't safe.
Buffy: I don't know you.
Cordelia: Did something take her memory? He's Giles. Gi-les. He hangs out here a lot.
Buffy: Cordelia, could you please drive me home?
Cordelia: Of course.
[Cordelia turns to Giles]
Cordelia: But if the world doesn't end, I'm gonna need a note.

Angel: I saw you before you became the Slayer.
Buffy: What?
Angel: I watched you, and I saw you called. It was a bright afternoon out in front of your school. You walked down the steps... and... and I loved you.
Buffy: Why?
Angel: Because I could see your heart. You held it before you for everyone to see. And I worried that it would be bruised or torn. And more than anything in my life, I wanted to keep it safe... to warm it with my own.
Buffy: That's beautiful. Or taken literally, incredibly gross.
Angel: I was just thinking that, too.
