Rick Castle is hired by Eva Whitfield, an old friend from high school to find out if her husband is having an affair. Rick is reluctant to take the case but gets pictures of Cole with another woman. When Rick goes to deliver the photos to Eva, he sees someone dragging her apparently dead body into a car and driving off. When he can't reach Beckett, he folllow into the woods and is knocked out. Later, Castle, Beckett, and a Detective Neely head to Eva's home where there are no signs of a struggle and Cole has an alibi. He spent the evening with his mistress. Rick is determined to prove that Cole killed Eva until Cole gets a phone call from Eva saying she's gone and she took millions of dollars from their bank account. Just as Castle begins to believe that Eva has played him to set up Cole to take the fall for her murder, Eva's body is found in the Hudson river. When the police go to arrest Cole for his wife's murder, they find him dead in his home.
