Sharon has done some digging into Cooper, apparently, and tells Will that Cooper has gotten what she thinks are kickbacks but she needs to get proof. Will says he will stop by the ICU unit and see what he finds out.

Vanessa thanks Maggie for giving her a cupcake for her birthday. Maggie hopes she wasn't out of line. Vanessa is fine with it. Also, she is there two hours early to get a jump on the competition.

Scott encourages a girl who was fighting after being bullied. No sooner does she leave but he is called in to deal with a woman who is panicking because her daughter (?) took sleeping pills.

Scott give the girl a charcoal drink but she can't drink it. He will have to intubate and pump her stomach. She says this was an accident. Scott has Charles paged anyway.

Will starts nosing around but Cooper shows up so Will pretends to be interested and asks him ab out it. Cooper gives him some scientific info about why the VasCom is superior despite its more expensive price tag.

Sharon wanders into the ED looking for Will. He isn't there but while she's there she asks Marcel if he wants to volunteer to be a mentor for the new residents. He says he doesn't want to leave anyone hanging even though he doesn't plan to leave Med. He wants to think about it. Sharon says he's the fifth person to tell her that. She turns to go and nearly collapses. She says she's lightheaded. Marcel helps her sit down. She had an app on her phone that tells her that her blood sugar is high. She says she'll stop by endocrinology to get checked out. She wanders off and runs into Will who says he thinks Cooper is good, everything seemed legit but he will keep digging. A patient comes to the ED and Will is called in to work with him. The boy's  blood sugar is also high and is on steroids. His panicked mother says she takes care of everything and he shouldn't have been at the skate park. Will orders an A1C test so they can see if he's developed diabetes. The mother says but Brandon is supposed to be part of a clinical trial for Addison's and if he has diabetes he can't be.  (Is this going to turn into a Munchausen type situation?)

The girl who took the pills tells Charles she took the pills by accident. She was drinking and not in her right mind. She had argued with her mom that day and didn't know why she even called her. She had overreacted. She's headed to the Congo next week. She is a UNICEF negotiator and wants to get going. Charles is impressed but imagines this is a stressful job. The girl says she's fine but the kids she sees have been through so much trauma. She wants to be discharged as soon as possible. Scott wants to give her fluids and then see .

Outside, Charles tells Scott this is PTSD, burnout, depression. Scott wonders if this is a wakeup call for Krista. Charles doesn't think so. He wants to convince her to admit herself to psych. Scott says the saline pack will buy them an hour.

Brandon's blood sugar is normal and so is everything else. Stevie asks Will if he thinks this is Munchausen's. Stevie doesn't think so. Will thinks the mom is overinvolved and fits the profile for Munchausens. Stevie disagrees. Will says we have to get to the bototm of this even if it means exploring this possibility.

A motorcycle accident comes in but Archer says they have no more beds. The triage nurse says the hybrid OR. Both the motorcycle driver and car driver are brought in.  The car driver is anxious and wants her anti-anxiety meds. She's freaking out about the posisbility the motorcyclist is dead.

Archer and Vanessa check the motorcyclist. Archer thinks amputation is required. Vanessa suggests an alternative treatment. Archer says that could cause sepsis, but not a bad idea. She might want to scrub in for the amputation if she has the stomach for it. Archer leaves. Vanessa looks upset.

Will and Stevie talk to the mother, who insists she is giving Brandon the right medication. Will says they will send over a social worker. The mother gets defensive and accuses them of thinking she's lying and hurting her son. Brandon wants to know what's happening. He says his mom would neer do that. She wants to report them both. Brandon says stop. He took too much medication himself.

Scott tries to talk to Krista about PTSD and his own experience and how therapy was helpful for him. Charles adds that a career helping others can cause high emotional cost. He sees a psychiatrist himself. Krista says she doesn't have time to indulge in therapy because she has to fight for the kids. Charles says that she can't ignore her own needs. Next time she could die. Krista says she can't let the kids down even though it's hard to keep going. She begins to cry and admits it's not the first time. Charles suggests she check in to the in patient psych clinic for a few days. Krista agrees.

Brandon took extra pills because he didn't want to participate in the trial. He wants to go to college in London and this will interfere. He is sure he can handle his condition on his own. His mother says she is doing what is best for him. London will have to wait. Stevie says she will go get the discharge papers.

Will tells Stevie he feels for the kid. It should be his decision. Stevie says but what he did doesn't inspire confidence and anyway this could be life changing and give him more freedom. Will thinks the mom is trying to keep him at home. Stevie says it's not our call.

Will goes in to talk to Brandon and ask how he's doing. Brandon says this is crazy. He's almost 18 and his mom doesn't get it. What can he do? Will says there is one thing.

Vanessa talks to Marcel who tells her that he agrees with her idea and not Archer's. Vanessa says she doesn't want to ruffle feathers. Marcel says she shouldn't be afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

Charles is on the phone trying to find a bed for Krista. Archer complains to Scott that Krista is taking up a bed when she's supposed to be in psych.

Archer is impressed that Vanessa is here early. She tries again to tell him not to do the procedure but he says that it has already been approved. He is not happy that she consulted Marcel. He says go talk to the family and then you and Marcel can take the case since you already decided what's best. Archer walks away and Vanessa confides in Maggie that she knows she did the right thing but she's worried it won't go her way.

Brandon has decided to become emancipated. Stevie takes Will aside and says he has never changed and is always in everyone's business. Will doesn't understand why Stevie is so defensive. He says Marie is not their patient.  Brandon is.

Charles can't find a bed. Archer insists they need the bed NOW. Send her to Bachmann. Scott and Charles say no. They treat people like perps for seeking help. Archer says he gets it. Scott doesn't think so. He accuses Archer of running the place like a drive through and storms off.

Charles follows Scott out. He apologizes. He's frustrated because he thought he was making progress and now there's red tape. As a cop he felt he had to betray the people he was protecting  That's part of why he left. Once he and his partner responded to a drive by. Kid was shot and somehow Scott saved him. He wears a necklace with the slug. It was the most useful he ever felt on the force so he switched to medicine but days like today... Charles understands. He thinks they have no choice but to call Bachmann. Maybe Scott can get some cops to handle the transfer (humanely?)

Maggie confronts Marcel about what he told Vanessa to do. He says he admires her for advocating for a patient. Maggie says his two cents has consequences. Remember that.

Stevie goes to see Marie in the courtyard. Marie says she just wants what's best for Brandon. Stevie says she doesn't judge her. She admires how deeply Marie loves Brandon. Marie says her husband was killed by a drunk driver and soon after Brandon got sick.  She was terrified she would lose him too. Stevie understands why she is so determined to protect him. Marie says if anything were to happen to him and she wasn't there... Stevie says Marie has taken good care of Brandon and shown him how to take care of himself. Marie says he's a good kid. She assumes Stevie has kids. Stevie doesn't, but she was always the little girl who wished she had a mom like Marie.

Vanessa and Marcel operate. No blood flow. Marcel says they're not sunk  yet. He will open up the repair.

Krista is upset that there are no beds for her. She won't go to Bachmann. That is for people with really serious issues. If she can't stay here she wants to go home. Charles says he is worried about her and she is a danger to herself. Krista said you made it seem like it was my choice but you were always going to commit me. She freaks out and tries to pull out her IV. Scott and another doctor have to restrain her.

Marie and Brandon hug. Brandon is going to London. Will tells Stevie he heard Stevie spoke to Marie before Marie agreed to let Brandon go. Stevie won't tell him what she said. She is sorry she was hard on him. A nurse comes by with paychecks. Will is glad he will be able to pay his rent. Stevie teases him about always acting like he's broke.

Marcel tells Vanessa that Shaun will keep his arm thanks to her. He also apologizes for throwing her into the lion's den. Maggie said he might have put her in a bad spot. Vanessa says she is so thankful for his advice. She wonders if Marcel would be her advisor in the mentorship program.

Dr. Yang tells Sharon that her blood sugar has been climbing. Sharon hasn't changed her habits at all. The diabetes is progressing anyway. Dr. Yang will adjust her meds. She says stress could play a part. Will interrupts and Yang says she is leaving.

Will tells Sharon they are taking the wrong approach. He says he should pretend he's desperate for money so Cooper will target him.

Vanessa refuses to talk to Maggie. Vanessa says Maggie won't stay in her lane. She wants her to treat her like eeveryone else.

Scott asks the cops not to cuff Krista. They agree. Scott asks Charles how he can do this for 35 years. Charles says hold onto the good days, the wins.
