Recap

Folsom's mother is ignoring his calls since Trey's arrest. Because of her outburst at the bomb-squad officer, Maxine has been ordered to see a psychologist. A blood-covered Gene Farrow, carrying weapons, arrives at the crime lab looking for Allie's help. Farrow describes a break-in by masked men at his great-aunt Joan's house. The robbers tortured them to get the combination to the safe. He says Joan has been kidnapped. Serena finds her dead behind her house. Gene had hosted a dinner for his fellow haunted-house enthusiasts. He says he felt fuzzy afterward, like he had been drugged. Gene explains that the safe is filled with uncut gems, as Joan's late husband had been a gem dealer. Gene doesn't know the real names for group members. Milton rules Joan was electrocuted. Max's psychologist meets her at a shooting range. Everyone has fuzzy memories of Gene's dinner because of spiked punch. There was no jewels and only $5,000 in cash in the safe. Folsom determined Gene didn't torture himself. Shelly Walker had Gene's blood under her nails. But Shelly escapes down the fire escape. Joan's body has decomposed unusually fast. Milton suggests that usually happens when a body has been recovered from water. Allie decides Joan was killed in her bathtub. She died 36 hours before Gene walked into the lab. Allie and Serena confront Gene. He killed Joan while trying to get her to remember the combination to the safe and the location of her safe-deposit box. He staged the dinner and dosed the punch so that his friends would think Joan was still alive then. Then he staged the break-in and had Shelly inflict his wounds. Jeannette was ignoring Folsom's calls because he didn't phone on the anniversary of his father's death. He sees track marks on Jeannette's arm.

Farrow: After everything you've put me through, you still can't call me Gene?

Allie: Well, I think it's sweet that you still try.
Folsom: What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?
