Emily continues to struggle with  whether she should publish her poems and decides to hold a  reaches out to Sue but gets no help a séance for guidance.

Emily, Lavinia, and their friends hold a séance and speak about their intentions.

Lavinia vocalizes her conflicted feelings about marrying Ship and wonders if she'll even get married at all, believing that she's more than a man's property.

Emily calls on the spirits for help with her decision, and creepy stuff, such as flickering lights and candles and levitating instruments, start happening.

Emily has another conversation with Nobody about her future as a poet and eventually decides to give Sam one of her poems to be published in the Springfield Republican.

Sam says Emily’s poem will be considered, and he'll be in touch as he has other submissions to go through.

Elsewhere, Mrs. Dickinson learn about a shipwreck that led to the death of a handsome captain.

During the séance, Mrs. Dickinson becomes convinced the dead captain is reaching out, trying to tell her the coordinates of his crashed ship.

Emily overhears Henry and Betty argue about his involvement in a secret Black newspaper, and they discuss whether Henry would have his name published if he could.
