Cullen, determined to see the railroad project through, starts his job up again.

He has Jim help him use nitroglycerin for a more powerful explosion to get through the mountain.

After a fatal explosion, Jim refuses to help Bohannon.

Bohannon continues his relationship with Mei, and the two even attempt to fix a nitroglycerin problem.

Jim is fired for not helping.

Bohannon is almost caught with Mei by Chang, who seems to suspect something.

Durant wants to be with Maggie, but she finds out he is broke.

Durant gets Mickey to have his men kidnap him so a ransom would be paid so Durant can pay back the ranchers he tricked.

Martin, who has recently gotten divorced, is shot during the kidnapping.
