Recap

The episode opens with future Ted telling the story about the one fight he's been in.  We're introduced to Dave, the crazy, huge bartender who is played by guest star Will Sasso and we're supposed to believe has been around the whole time.  He's very loyal to the gang and when someone tries to take their booth, he goes outside to fight the guys in the booth and asks the boys to come join.

Ted, eager is to prove he's not a wuss who got left at the alter, and Barney, eager to show off to Robin, follow Dave outside.  By the time they get out there, Dave layed out the three guys, but due to a blackout thinks the guys helped him fight.  Barney punches himself in the eye and Ted in the nose to make it look like they were in the fight and they come back inside to fake it.   Marshall, meanwhile, tells the guys he's been in plenty of fights with his brothers, but choose to sit it out and be the mature one.

When Ted and Barney are bragging about their fight to some ladies, it turns out the guys are back and in their booth again.  Ted and Barney go to the booth and act all tough thinking they have Dave (who's not working that night), and are relieved to find out the guys just want to sue them.  They admit the truth to Marshall and seek his advice.  Later that night, Robin comes over to ask Barney out on a date, but when she hears from Marshall that they faked the whole thing she has other plans.

The next day at the bar, it turns out the case is dropped when Marshall tells the guys Ted and Barney weren't involved.  However, when Dave finds out, he goes nuts on the guys and Marshall is forced to step in and defends his boys.  We learn that Marshall really has been in fights and can drop a can of whoop ass.

How I Met Your Mother Season 4 Episode 10 Quotes

Robin: There are plenty of legitimate reasons to get in a fight. It might not be pretty, but in certain situations you gotta do what you gotta do.
Ted: Right, I forgot, she thinks fighting is sexy.
Robin: No, I do not... a lot! Look, I come from a culture of hockey players. If a guy can throw down it's somewhat way hot. And scars? Hello! If a guy's got a scar, he's got a Robin, and if he's missing teeth, I'm missing my pants!

Marshall: You know what, Doug, I will gladly pay. And you know why? Cause that's what grown-ups do! They pay for their drinks and they don't get into fights. You know what I was doing while you guys were out there being immature? I tell you what I was doing...
Barney: ...your nails?!
Marshall: Haha, No, I was doing...
Ted: ...a relationship-quiz in this month's Cosmo?!
Marshall: No, I was doing...
Barney: Your best not to cry when Big came back for Carrie at the end of the Sex and the City movie?!
