On Law & Order: SVU Season 17 Episode 1, the detectives find a dismembered body floating in the water. The murder is reminiscent of Greg Yeats' murders, complete with green nail polish. However, it also is different because the body has been dismembered.

Rollins goes to see Yeats in jail to talk about the murders. When her visits to him are discovered, Benson doubts her credibility. The question in her co-workers' minds grows when Yeats claims that Carl Rudnick, the deputy ME, is responsible for the murders.

ME Melinda Warner rechecks some of Rudnick's autopsies and finds he made some careless mistakes, which is unusual. In addition, he had a personal connection to one of the murder victims, and her body was found in the wall of his great-aunt's house. The detectives reluctantly conclude there's some truth to Yeats' accusations. Meanwhile, Yeats' girlfriend is motivated to help because she believes the new murders will help overturn Yeats' conviction and get him out of prison.
