Law & Order: SVU Season 19 Episode 12 revolves around the question of what to do with a seriously ill infant who will never have any quality of life.

When Aaron Householder kidnaps his infant son, who cannot breathe without a ventilator, he is quickly found and apprehended, but first he tells Benson that his wife doesn't want the child and wants to kill him. Maggie explains that Drew has a genetic disorder that stops him from seeing, hearing, breathing or developing, but Aaron wants him to live. They are waiting for a court order about the issue.

No one wants Aaron prosecuted but Barba feels he must. He goes to McCoy, who tells him to make a deal. When he delivers the news, Maggie sobs because Drew is being kept alive endlessly while the court dickers. Barba sends her out of the room and pulls the plug himself.

McCoy must now prosecute Barba for murder, with the help of the late Ben Stone's son Peter. Will Barba be sent to prison?

Peter Stone is in town because of his father's funeral, but McCoy thinks he follows in his footsteps more than he knows. Will he heed his words?

Law & Order: SVU Season 19 Episode 12 Quotes

Maggie: When he was two months old, Aaron noticed he was struggling to breathe. He has mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome. It's a genetic thing.
Benson: So soon Drew won't be able to breathe on his own.
Maggie: I spend more time in Mercy Hospital than at home.

Typical Tuesday afternoon. The mom goes out to do her nails and do some shopping, dad comes home, duct tapes the sitter and takes their 10-month old son.
