Law & Order: SVU Season 23 Episode 13 revolves around questions of openness as well as revisiting Benson's past.

When a young woman, Ashley, meets her birth mother for the first time, she learns that she was the product of rape. She visits SVU and asks Benson to find and arrest her biological father.

The case is challenging, both because Michelle is reluctant to cooperate in the investigation and wishes she hadn't told Ashley the truth and because she doesn't remember what happened to her. She was a teenager and passed out at a party, only to find out she was pregnant 5 months later.

Rollins agrees with Michelle that it's sometimes better not to know things. Carisi is upset by this because he wants Rollins' kids, their families, and their co-workers to know they're a thing. Rollins is reluctant to do this and they get into an argument.

Meanwhile, the investigation leads SVU to a rich mogul who claims that he had dozens of consensual encounters that summer and attempts multiple times to pay Michelle off for her silence. It also leads them to Josh Wilcox, a man who had a crush on Michelle as a boy and is eager to resume the relationship.

Carisi: That's not enough to get an indictment.
Benson: So you want a woman to remember details of a rape 18 years ago?
Carisi: Can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

Girl: I want to report a rape.
Benson: Okay.
Girl: Not mine. It's my mother's. I was conceived when she was raped by my biological father.
