On New Girl Season 5 Episode 13, Jess is up for a job at a progressive school. After touring the school with the principal, Genevieve, Jess is even more excited about the prospect of working for her. Unfortunately, Jess's excitement turns to horror when she realizes Genevieve is dating her ex-boyfriend Sam. 

After Sam comes to the school to pick Genevieve up, they both reveal they had a relationship. Genevieve doesn't say anything and instead leaves with Sam. Jess talks to her friends to get their advice and they all tell her to stay out of it, but Jess can't resist and goes to Sam's house. She finds not only Sam there, but Genevieve as well and she pleads her case. Genevieve, using the progressive tools she accustomed to, suggests Sam go apologize for punching Nick and get an apology out of Nick for kissing Jess.

Jess brings Genevieve and Sam back to the loft and Sam apologizes to Nick. Nick isn't willing to apologize to Sam because he doesn't regret kissing Jess because it lead to a great relationship. Sam gets angry and it causes Genevieve to realize she doesn't want a relationship with Sam. Genevieve offers Jess the job and she happily accepts.
