Back in the Enchanted Forest, Regina hunts down Maleficient to learn magic from her but finds she's a broken version of her former self and can no longer become a dragon. When she hears that King Stefan's daughter Aurora is about to get married, Regina is livid that another generation will get their happy endings but she won't. She helps Maleficient find her inner dragon. Maleficent puts Aurora under a sleeping curse and Regina goes back home and does the same to a young Snow White's horse.

Back in Storybrooke, Regina goes undercover to try and figure out the plan of the queens of darkness. They want her to kidnap Pinnochio so that they can try and use him to find the author. Emma tries to follow Regina but Regina ditches her cell phone, assuring Emma she can do this alone. But she finds Rumpelstiltskin is back in Storybrooke and has stolen the dagger from Belle. Rumpel uses his dark magic to turn Pinnochio back in August, hoping that they can question the adult version to find out where to find the author.
