Recap

Mabel sits in front of a pile of puzzle pieces, narrating how her father used to love them.

When she was young, and he moved out, she would go over to his place every week, and they would do a puzzle together. During one of these dates, they flip the pieces over and do it only by shape to make it a challenge.

Mabel looks at the symbolic puzzle pieces of Bunny's murder and begins to flip them.

Mabel wakes up in a strange bed in a room she doesn't recognize. There is blood on the bed next to her.

Theo enters his apartment. Mabel hits him on the back of the head with a lamp. She knocks him over, but he recovers quickly. He explains that he's trying to help her and shows her the video of her stabbing the Glitter Man on the subway. She doesn't remember the incident.

Charles and Oliver make calls but cannot find Mabel. Detective Williams shows up at their door with baby Keith.

Mabel notices Theo's ankle monitor. Theo tries to sign to her, but she doesn't understand ASL. He shows her his card, which lets her know he only catches about 30% of what she says through lip-reading.

Mabel gets up to go, asking where her bag is. Theo doesn't know, and she grows increasingly frustrated by his signing.

He writes it down, telling her that they were on the same train and he saw a man attack her, who she then stabbed him. The man, covered in glitter, ran past Theo, carrying Mabel's bag. Theo notes that Mabel seemed to be in shock, so he brought her back to his place.

Mabel asks if the man that attacked her had glitter on him, and Theo confirms that he did. He shows Mabel the man's security badge from Coney Island.

Theo offers to drive her. She refuses his help, saying he killed Zoe and let Oscar rot in jail for a decade. Theo insists that's not who he is and pleads to let him drive her.

Detective Williams questions Oliver and Charles about Mabel. They ask her why she isn't in Denver. Williams says she came back last night because the case is weighing on her, and the two of them are not sharing vital information.

Williams stresses that if they don't tell her what she needs to know, she will side with Detective Kreps. There have been two knitting needle stabbings now, which doesn't look good for Mabel.

Charles reminds Williams that Bunny was stabbed with a knife and tells her there is no knife in any of their apartments.

Oliver excuses himself to go to the bathroom. Williams and Charles hear Oliver grunting and moaning. Charles goes to check on him.

Oliver is trying to open the secret passageway to sneak into his apartment to get rid of the knife. Oliver admits he forgot about it -- he was distracted by Will's production of The Wizard Of Oz.

Charles and Oliver discuss what to do about the knife as Williams listens outside the door. She knocks, and they open it. She claims they have the knife. They lie. She asks them if they know what perjury is.

Theo and Mabel arrived at Coney Island. The amusement park is empty. Theo breaks into the office trailer, and Mabel goes through the employee files.

Mabel takes a minute and leaves. Theo bags all the employee files and brings them out to her. His anklet monitor beeps. He needs to charge for an hour. She finds an outlet and plugs him in, which also plugs in the whack-a-mole machine, and she shows him the game.

Mabel remembers watching The X-Files with her dad. He apologizes for not taking her to the zoo. She says fine with it, reveling in the terror of The X-Files. Her father notes that it's a mystery, which is just like a puzzle.

Theo plays the claw game and loses six times. He opens the machine and pulls out a ball. It's got a ring box in it. He opens it, but to both their surprise, it reveals a green jewel ring, not unlike the one Zoe stole from Teddy.

Theo hands the box to Mabel. He tells her that he thinks about Zoe every night before he goes to sleep and still doesn't know if she slipped or if he pushed her.

Mabel remarks how the Arconia is full of bad memories of Zoe and Tim's dead bodies. Mabel worries she could have stabbed Bunny without remembering. Unfortunately, Theo doesn't catch what she says.

Theo's ankle monitor beeps, fully charged. Mabel heads to the bathroom, saying they will head back to the city when she's done.

Baby Keith starts crying, and Williams can't calm him. Oliver offers to help. He lays a blanket down on the table, lays Keith on it, and sings "One" from A Chorus Line, moving Keith's legs in time to the song until the baby passes gas, which settles him. Oliver gives Keith back to his mother.

Williams insists she will never do that, but Oliver says she would do anything to help her kids -- he would know. Charles concurs, though he barely considers himself a parent.

Williams insists she is not trying to put Mabel away but merely to solve the case, and they should help her if they can. Charles and Oliver go to the bathroom together.

Mabel goes to the bathroom and remembers visiting her dad on Halloween. They were going to go trick or treating as Mulder and Scully. Her father offers her a puzzle, but she knocks it out of his hand, stating that he is always breaking promises.

Charles and Oliver supply Williams with the knife, telling her they have been framed and that Mabel's prints are not on it, but Oliver's are (because the knife belongs to him), as well as Lucy's prints. Williams thanks them, takes the knife, and leaves, singing "One."

Mabel notices glitter in the bathroom sink. She checks the employee locker room and sees blood in the garbage. She hears someone coming.

Theo waits outside.

Mabel hides in a locker. The Glitter Man appears, his face still obscured. He has a first aid kit and is bleeding. Mabel shifts, banging the locker she is hiding in.

The Glitter Man starts opening each locker one by one. Mabel bursts out, hitting him in the face with the door, and runs, grabbing his bag on the way. She finds Theo, and they hide as the Glitter Man runs past.

As they drive home, Mabel goes through the bag and finds her purse, but the matchbook is missing. She looks at her phone, seeing texts and missed calls from Charles and Oliver, telling her they're at the diner.

Theo's phone rings. It's his father. He doesn't answer. Mabel tells Theo that her father died of stomach cancer when she was seven, but she was unaware of what was happening until it was too late -- her family hid it from her as best they could.

Mabel recalls curling up with him in the hospital bed. This was when she started blotting out traumatic events in her mind. She decides she needs to "flip the pieces" to see the whole puzzle picture. She forces herself to remember the night Bunny died.

Flashback: Mabel enters her apartment and sees someone with a knife running out. She goes to grab her knitting needle, but it's not there. Bunny staggers in with the needle in her chest. Bunny falls to the ground, and Mabel crouches by her side.

Mabel realizes she did not harm Bunny. They arrive at the Pickle Diner. Mabel signs "thank you for stealing my fish" to Theo, and he pretends she signed correctly. She advises him not to push his father away.

Mabel enters the diner and greets Charles and Oliver with hugs. Theo watches from the car. After a moment, he calls his father.

Mabel shows Charles something the Glitter Man had in his bag -- a photograph of Charles and Lucy.

Charles immediately calls Lucy. She's at his place. Before either of them can get another word in, all the lights go out, everywhere. It's a blackout.

Only Murders In the Building Season 2 Episode 7 Quotes

Either the killer is in these files, or I’m some unhinged psychopath who goes into fugue states and stabs people. Either way, a girl likes to know these things about herself.

Mabel Mora

Mabel Mora: It always seems like people can lip-read more in movies.
Theo Dimas: Yeah, well, deaf people don’t get to write a lot of movies.
