Daniel discovers a code written within the newspaper. He comes to Kate with his hunch and they get word that the same code writer is also a killer attacking people with sarin gas.

Daniel's hallucination of a World War I code breaker helps guide him through the multiple codes.

Dafoe, who worked with the killer's first 2 victims, was creating a special strain of corn and after wind blew it onto other farms crops, sued them for selling his strain of corn forcing them into foreclosure.

Daniel learns that the killer is the son of one of the foreclosed farmers enacting revenge. Luckily, Daniel is able to convince him to surrender and Dafoe is taken to prison.

Daniel makes peace with Lewicki who had gone on strike.
