Recap

Maddie is in the shoer. She hears a noise and someone sneaks p behind her and covers her mouth. It turns out to be her girlfriend.

Maddie is thinking about this (Dream sequence?) when she sees her girlfriend. Maddie is excited that her parents want to meet her girlfriend. Her girlfriend is nervous about whether the parole hearing will go well. Maddie is confident that it will.

A Hispanic couple comes to see Maddie. Their son Daniel was wrongfully convicted of rape and murder. Daniel says he was at a frat party and woke up the next morning to cops standing over him and a girl's dead body. He didn't know her.

Bodie is happy that Daniel did all the work for them. Easy is happy because his mentor, Eli Fry, is the judge on the case.

Amina interrupts. Devon was put back on Death Row because he doesn't have an impending appeal and they are rushing executions so they can use up their lethal drugs before they expire. The court vacated the stay of execution. Easy says he will take Mr. Hernandez's case so Maddie can go to Ohio.

Elijah Fry dismisses the rape charge but keeps the murder charge.. He says rape and murder are two separate charges.

Devon says he was thrown back on Death Row with no explanation. Maddie, Violet and Amina go over what they know.

Meanwhile Easy and Bodie go over Danny's case. Bodie wonders how they will track all these frat bros down. Easy says they will be at the same fundraiser

Bodie and Easy go to the fundraiser. They talk to someone. Another frat brother comes out and throws them out.

Meanwhile Maddie sees an impatient judge who denies the petition without letting her make an argument.

Bodie uses a genealogy service to try to ID the rapist. They find the rapist's son is looking for his bio dad and submitted his DNA to the site. They go to talk to the kid's mother, who knew Janet Dale.  She says she drank too much at a frat party and was raped and almost murdered. She says Bob Calloway, the man who threw the guys out of the fundraiser, was the rapist.

Easy comes back to court to get a DNA order from Calloway. The judge says no because the rape charge was dismissed and doesn't have anything to do with the murder charge. The judge doesn't seem to remember having seen Easy last week before he denies the motion.

Levi and Linda have coffee and Levi says he has a hard time with one day at a time too. Linda doesn't want to talk to him.

Linda eventually says they all got drugs from Heather and everything changed after Rosemary died.

Bellows' campaign advisors argue about whether or not he should come out as pro-death penalty. Bellows says he only calls for the death penalty when he was sure it was called for.

Violet finds that Samson was working with the DEA when he died. Also Troy's bodyguard was a DEA agent and head of the joint task force -- he set Samson up.

Violet and Maddie meet with Trent. He says Samson called him and said he was going to the park. He insists his employment with Troy D is legit and Troy had no reason to kill Samson. The investigation was going nowhere.

Brenda calls. She has a hearing tomorrow and is upset that Maddie won't be able to make it to be a character witness. Maddie is upset too.

Bodie and Easy bother Eddie at a restaurant and re-introduce him to Karin. He didn't know what Bob did. He says he and Bob drank a lot. They took Janet to a room. She tried to run away and scream. Bob put his hand over her mouth. Eddie left. He was a coward.

Eddie comes to testify n front of Fry, who seems to have forgotten there is no jury.

Bellows' wife thinks he should not be like Hilary Clinton and be a loser who cares more about what he'll do in office than winning the election. He fires Connor.

Troy calls Maddie to see all the things he built in this city.

Easy goes to see Fry. Fry says he's had a short fuse since his wife passed last year. Easy tells him that was four years ago. Easy thinks the judge should step down.. Fry is offended. He insists he's fine and as sharp as ever. Easy mentions a case he is going to use in his appeal. Fry doesn't remember the case. Easy says tearfully that the judge wrote that opinion. Fry is grateful that Easy didn't make a motion in public to recuse him.

Fry decides to step down due to his memory issues. A new judge dismisses Hernandez's case.

Troy's bodyguard testifies but the judge is not interested and denies the petition. He says Devon will  be executed as scheduled.

Bellows' megadonor is happy with him.

Devon is ready to die even though the legal team wants to still fight for him. He's not scared because he knows he's not alone.

The team fights for clemncy but it fails and Devon is taken to the execution chamber anyway.

Proven Innocent Season 1 Episode 9 Quotes

There are about a million ways to wind up in prison, but only four ways to get out. You do your time, you get paroled, you leave in a body bag, or our personal favorite, you get exonerated.

Violet

Maddie: You were convicted of the rape and murder of Janet Dale?
Daniel: It's not true. I never even met her.
Easy: But you were found in the same room as her dead body.
