-Graham Randall a young prisoner is stabbed to death as he is about to be released. His autopsy finds he ingested a balloon with four teeth inside.

-Jane comes face to face with serial killer Hoyt at the prison infirmary. He has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is dying. He taunts Jane with a story about more of his crimes.

-With clues from Hoyt's ramblings, Jane figures out that the four teeth belong to a missing family and finds them submerged in their car in a lake. It looks as though Hoyt was angry with the father so he slit the throats of the entrie family.

-Jane and Maura go to the prison when they are told that Hoyt is about to die but wants to give Jane more details about his crimes.

-It's a set up. Hoyt's guard is his apprentice. They restrain both Maura and Jane. Hoyt plans to kill them both but he tazers Maura first and then goes to slit her throat. Jane fights back, attacking the guard and stabbing Hoyt to death.

-At Jane's surprise birthday party, her colleagues and family congratulate her on her birthday present. The death of Charles Hoyt.
