Nikolai and the Crows head into the fold to find Alina and Mal, and Kaz gives Nikolai his cane.

They escape some attacking Vulcra, just to find themselves trapped with a shadow monster.

They try to take it down with magic, bombs, and weapons, but nothign works.

Meanwhile, Zoya and Inej look for Nina, and Alina panics about Mal's fast-approaching death.

Mal gives Alina a dagger, but she doesn't want to kill him.

Alina deals the finishing blow on Mal, which amplifies her power.

She recieves his last memories, and all he thought about in his final moments was Alina.

Kirigan is amazed at Alina's power.

Her outburst of energy managed to tear down the fold.

Once the fold fell, shaow monsters attacked Zoya and Alina.

Nina wakes up to see the fold taken down.

Alina tries to wake Mal up.

Ineh fights off all the shadow monsters with the Neshyenyer.

Alina calls for Nina, and Nina tries to save Mal by restarting his heart.

Kirigan tries to convince Alina to still stand by him.

Alina takes Kirigan down and attacks him, which activates one of his shadow monsters.

Inej manages to save Alina by throwing the Neshyenyer at it.

Kirigan lets his guard down, and Alina stabs him through the stomach, killing him.

He wants her to make sure there is nothing left of him.

The death of Kirigan saves Nikolai from being killed by a shadow monster.

Nina still struggles to revive Mal.

Alina begs Mal to return, and decides to us Merzost, even after promising Bgahra she wouldn't.

She doesn't tell anyone she used Merzost, but Nina knows something isn't right.

The losses in his army sadden Nikolai.

Inej gives Alina the Neshyenyer.

Nikolai thanks the Crows, but Kaz wants payment instead of thanks.

Jesper tries to give their crew a nickname, and Kaz makes sure that he includes Nina.

Mal thinks his bloodline and Alina's powers were the only reason they met.

Matthias remembers his memory of Nina, and decides that he wants to be put into the fights.

He doesn't want the money Pekka will make off the fight; he just wants to fight.

Genya hunts for David throughout the fort.

Genya and Adrick search for him, but she cannot feel his heartbeat.

She see's blood all over, and Adrick catches her before she faints.

Genya goes through his things, where she finds a ruby gemstone and a design for a ring.

Alina, the other Grisha, the Crows, and Nikolai's crew all attend to the burning of Kirigan's body.

Nikolai makes a speech as the world witnesses the fall of the fold.

Genya, Alina, and Zoya watch as the body burns.

Kaz visits Inej in the chapel and says goodbye.

He reveals that he's been looking for her family.

Kaz admits that he wants Inej.

She admits to wanting him, too, but wants him to take down his armor.

Nikolai passes on the Sturmhond name to Mal. Tamar and Tolya are in command of the ship now.

Inej also boards the ship.

The airship heads out, leaving Nikolai behind.

At sea, Inej spots the slaver ship.

Back at Hellgate, Nina visits during the fights, where she sees Matthias joining the fights.

She hands the letter of Matthias's Pardon to the guard, but he doesn't help.

Pekka sends two wolves out as Matthias's opponents.

Matthias refuses to fight the wolves, and he kills a guard.

Nina tries to get Rollins to stop Matthias's beating.

She gets taken away and drops the letter pardoning her lover.

Kaz wants to buy out any girls who want to leave the Menagerie.

One of Nikolai's priests gives him some menacing advice.

Nikolai starts feeling pain and undresses to check on one of his wounds.

The wounds start to burn and spread through his body.

When he looks back in the mirror, he sees a shadow creature. But the creature isn't in the room with him; it is him.

Alina tries on her crown.

Nikolai visits Alina.

Genya and Zoya enter the room, chasing Nikolai out.

Alina wants Genya and Zoya to help out with everything, and they create a Triumvirate.

Kaz announces to Jesper, Nina, and Wylan that a very lucrative job has presented itself.

Nikolai gets crowned king.

Kaz narrates about a drug that amplifies Grisha greatly as a woman attending the coronation takes the drug.

The woman who took the drug announces something in Fjerdan and attacks all of the guests with her heightened power at the Coronation.

Even Alina, Zoya, and Genya are affected.

Alina, before passing out, manages to summon the cut and kill the girl.

But the cut was not her cut of light, but Kirigan's shadow cut.
