Abbie is throwing a single cupcake birthday for Ichabod. She can't fit 251 candles on it, however. They admit they could not have made it through without each other.

The horseman has done a job, lopping off the heads of a professor and a security guard.

Ichabod was an apprentice to Benjamin Franklin. Ichabod doesn't have many nice things to say about the fellow. This surprises Abbie.

Ichabod and Abbie are under the impression the Headless Horseman killed both Katrina and Jenny.

Ichabod finds a drawing of a key and we learn Ichabod was there when Ben Franklin flew the kite. Before Ichabod delivered the kite to Franklin, Ben was partaking of an air bath -- being naked in the air.

Franklin was trying to destroy the key, not use it as some sort of conductor. He failed.

The key was the Ghenna key. Ghenna is purgatory. The key can let anyone out of purgatory, including Moloch.

It appears the events we last recall were over a year ago.

Ichabod and Abbie are holding Ichys' son, Henry Parrish, as a prisoner. He requires gifts, of plants it seems, in order to help them.

Parrish wants to read Abbie's sins of omission on her palm to try to see if she knows something she may not know.

Suddenly Ichabod realizes he has no memories of the last year. He only remembers being in the coffin. Henry just wanted them to discover the key so he could use it to free whoever he wants from purgatory.

Abbie and Ichabod are still exactly where they were when we last saw them. Jenny is being held prisoner. He tries to convince Jenny of the deaths of Abbie and Ichabod.

Now that Ichabod's mind has been awoken, he tried to get himself out of the coffin.

Katrina is being held by Abraham AKA the Headless Horseman AKA Death.

Abbie runs into Brooks in Purgatory. He has clues for how she can escape.

Moloch is preparing to enter the earth and he's creating an army of the souls in Purgatory to go with him.

Ichabod is masterful striking a flintrock and blasts his way out of the coffin.

There is a mirror reflecting the light from the outside world which is how Moloch found Abbie.

Brooks is reminded that he is human. He intends to fight his way back.

Henry's ability to read sins is different than I expected. He can read any thought if someone tries to hide it from him as a sin of omission.

Abbie finds a place and says a spell and Ichabod finds her. She's concerned that they're walking into another trap. She wants him to leave her to Purgatory. He refuses.

Abraham gives to Katrina a necklace that gives her an illusion to see him as he was instead of the Horseman.

Ichabod plans on entering Purgatory more completely to rescue Abbie. When he finds her, Moloch or someone is masquerading as Ichabod and giving Abbie something to drink. Ichabod shows up just in time and gets the key and they run off together.

Except Abbie knew the second Ichabod was the false one because he said lieutenant as we do. For shame! After she lops off the guy's head, the real Ichabod has the key.

When the Witnesses say the phrase, they're met with a gate. Thankfully Ichabod has the key and the two are reunited in the real world and the key turns to dust. Jenny is extraordinarily happy to see her sister.

Henry is confronted by Moloch. There is new work to be done he says. A suit of armor comes out and it's an extension of Henry as the Horseman of War. Pretty handy, that.
