Shaun seems bored while Jordan and Lea discuss clubbing. He claims he doesn't mind being left out and runs off to take care of a patient.

Morgan asks Park to move into a new place with her.

Shaun sees a patient who is 17 and has put ta magnet and other technology in his body.

Morgan introduces Glassman to a patient who wants a controversial surgery to get relief from pain and depression. Glassman feels ambushed. He agrees to talk about it though.

Asher thinks Trent is self-harming. Shaun says he is biohacking and he is impressed with Trent's technique. However he has a serious infection and could lose his finger.

Morgan feels the surgery would approve Kayla's quality of life, but the rest of the team thinks it could change her personality. However, Glassman agrees to do the surgery.

Shaun says Trent may need an amputation. Trent and his mom argue about Trent's father not being in the picture. Trent's mom wants all the implants out. Shaun says it is up to Trent unless the surgery is medically necessary. Asher says leaving the other implants in risks infection. Trent says he's out of here. Then he collapses.

Morgan observes as Glassman starts the surgery but Andrews and Kayla's brother show up. Kayla's brother is her guardian and won't consent to the surgery.

Kayla's brother is upset that she lied to him. While Justin is talking to them, Kayla talks to Morgan. She made a lot of money from selling bangles and was out of control. That's how she injured her neck and everything got worse after that.  She feels the conservatorship took away her life. He feels it saved her life.

Lim talks about how she was Goth when she was a kid and Shaun talks about how he was always lonely. He thinks mothers should try to understand their children. Lim says that teens are asses.

Meanwhile, Morgan is upset. She tells Justin that his sister is suffering. He says he won't risk  her losing her creativity and personality. Morgan suggests showing him the fMRI so he can understand what's going on with her.

Trent is with a girl named Dixie who has RFID implants. Shaun asks if Trent is attracted to Dixie. He says she and her friends are the only people who get him. Shaun is excited about the technology. Trent wants to be an engineer. Also he plans to get his implants replaced when he's 18.

Jordan and Lea talk about how Jordan can create an ingestible sensor to find good and bad bacteria. Lea is willing to help her with the code.

Trent's mother tells Shaun to stop encouraging Trent. Shaun says why should he pretend he's not interested. Asher is happy to talk to Trent. Trent's mother says Trent has a connection with Shaun and Shaun s should talk to him. Shaun says he wouldn't be good at that.

While doing the fMRI, Morgan and Park bicker about how picky he is about apartments etc. Kayla starts having pain and freaking out.

Lea comes home and says she has to shower. Shaun agrees to be flexible and make her coffee. He comes into the living room and finds Jordan brushing her teeth or something

Kayla is on a low dose of ketamine for the time being. Anyway Morgan has found the perfect place to move in but Park doesn't want to be over the courtyard as it will be loud. Morgan is annoyed and goes to talk to Justin.

Shaun tells Lim his sex schedule was thrown off. She's having a bad morning because Trent's mother has complained. Lim insists Shaun remind Trent of the possible medical dangers of biohacking.

Morgan complains to Glassman that Justin won't consent to the fMRI. Glassman won't talk to Justin. He tells Morgan to find another tactic but she won't leave. Glassman says maybe they should work on changing Justin's feelings about Kayla.

Trent thinks Shaun sounds like a drug commercial. Shaun says it's nice that Trent's mom cares about him. Trent says his mom used to care.

Morgan says that Kayla's depressive episodes coincide with major life decisions Justin has made. Kayla gets angry that Justin has so much control over her. Justin says he wants Kayla discharged. Kayla lashes out at him and injures him. She has to be sedated.

Trent has irreversible damage to his joints from the LED light in his wrist. Asher suggests family counseling. Trent says his mom failed as a parent. He thinks his mom threw his dad out. She says Dad walked out.

Morgan gives Justin stitches and encourages him to give Kayla the chance to be an adult again. Justin admits he's scared of the surgery.

Asher wants to get a gift for Jerome. Shaun is focused on Trent and his wrist. Asher says the problem is the mother and son seem to hate each other and that's why Trent is becoming a cyborg. That gives Shaun an idea and he does his visualizing thing.

Shaun tells Trent's mother that there is an experimental treatment: an implant that will fix his wrist and give him an implant. Trent's mother is worried that future implants will ruin it, and also that it is expensive and not covered by insurance. She won't consent to this.

Shaun has a long list of rules for Jordan that includes avoiding eye contact. Shaun does not like to have anyone but Lea in the apartment. Lea makes him feel safe because he doesn't have to follow social rules around her. But Jordan is welcome there as long as she follows the rules including him being allowed to ignore her.

Justin and Kayla talk. He recalls having to tell her that their parents had died. He's so scared he could lose her. Kayla says her happy memory was that cabin he took her to when he forgot to sign her up for summer camp. She wants the freedom and happiness of that summer back. That's why she wants the surgery. He agrees to let her have the surgery.

Park tells Morgan the problem is the money. He can't afford a lot and his credit is a mess. Morgan says this is just about money?? If he can't afford it, she can help. He says unlike her he has to worry about money. Morgan says this is about his pride.

Shaun comes in to give Trent some referrals. He thinks Trent and his mom make no sense. Trent says his mom doesn't like him since Dad left. She says she's not mad at him, she's mad at his father for leaving. She couldn't make him feel better after his father left. She was jealous of his new friends and afraid of losing him. Trent's mom consents to the surgery.

Kayla has a drawing for Justin and gives him her heart bracelets before she is prepped for surgery.

Lim wonders what Shaun did to change the mother's mind and tells him conflict resolution is a crucial skill for an attending. She congratulates him.

Kayla feels strange when she wakes up like something's missing. She realizes it's the pain. But she thinks she's still her. Justin wants to take her to see a judge to undo the conservatorship.

After the surgery, Trent's mother tells him to invite his friend over for dinner.

Park tells Morgan she was right, this was about his pride. He's sorry. He wants them to keep talking about this. Morgan has a house she wants if Park can cover utilities and do chores without his shirt on. They kiss.

Jordan and Lea are having a heated discussion about tech when Shaun walks through so they cut themselves off. Shaun's bad manners give Jordan an idea. What if the sensor turned on and off?
