It's flashback time to reveal what happened in Kansas before Joel and Ellie got there.

Kathleen has rounded up a group, but none of them will tell her what happened to Henry.

She tells them that she would put them on trial -- they'd all be found guilty -- but she'd let them live.

But none of them answer so she prepares to kill them ... until one of them tells her the truth.

She calls him a rat and tells Perry to kill all of them. Perry quizzes her about her decision, but she says that what happened to her brother should not have happened.

This is her priority, and they won't be able to proceed until she gets her wish.

We see Adelstein hiding Sam and Henry in an attic. 10 days pass, and they've run out of food, and Adelstein is not there -- clearly because Kathleen killed him.

Sam and Henry sneak out and see Joel and Ellie crash into the store and try to escape.

That night, they find themselves on the smashed glass that Joel and Ellie left and then we cut to them with guns at Joel and Ellie.

Ellie tries to get Joel to cooperate. Henry says he'll trust them but he'll shoot them if they try anything.

Joel and Ellie give them food and everyone, but Joel communicates with them.

Joel says that they can be on their way now, but Henry says they all want the same thing: to escape the town.

The next morning, they sneak to the top of the building and go over a plan.

Joel is not convinced and doesn't like Henry when he says he was a rat.

Sam asks what's happening, and Henry says Joel and Ellie are helping them escape.

They make it through the sewers fine, which is a departure from the games.

They're underground at a school-like setting and Ellie and Sam are playing games.

Henry tells Joel the reason he informed him was that Sam had leukemia and it was the only way to get the medicine for him.

Fedra was holding it hostage and Henry turned over the nicest person alive.

Joel says that he's sorry for what he said.

We cut to Kathleen who is describing her brother's death and why she's so driven on revenge.

Perry understands now, and they get ready for the next phase of the attack.

Joel, Ellie, Sam, and Henry find themselves at a neighborhood and Joel sneaks in and kills the man inside because he turns a gun on him.

Kathleen sends a group ahead to plow all the cars away. Joel uses his rifle from the building to kill anyone near Ellie.

Kathleen arrives and Henry tries to turn himself in if the kids are saved, but Kathleen balks and says she won't be keeping them safe.

As she prepares to pull the trigger, the ground starts caving in where a truck crashed and thousands of clickers and the infected rush out.

Everyone scrambles. Ellie into a car as Joel shoots the infected when they go near her, but she's terrified when a kid Clicker chases her.

Outside, things are worse. A bloater comes through the ground and kills Perry -- and everyone it can gets its hands on.

Ellie saves Sam and Henry from clickers and as soon as they try to run away, Kathleen appears with a gun.

The kid clicker kills her and everyone else runs away from the scene.

At the motel, Sam reveals that he was bitten and Ellie says her blood will cure him. He asks her to stay awake with him.

She agrees, but falls asleep and when she wakes up, he's turned. He tries to kill her and Henry kills him before killing himself.

Joel and Ellie bury their bodies and continue on their quest.
