Two years have gone been since Red John's death and Jane is still a wanted man. Agent Abbot tracks him through letters he's been sneaking to Lisbon to an island with no extradition to the US. Abbot offers Jane a deal. Come back and consult for the FBI and the charges will be dropped.

Lisbon is working as a small town police chief. Rigsby and Van Pelt have started their own digital surveillance company and have a baby daughter named Maggie. Cho has joined the FBI.

Jane meets Kim on the beach and talks to her about the job offer. The two bond. After using the FBI's presence to take down a local drug dealer, Jane gives Abbott his terms for returning. Abbott signs his list and agrees.

Back in the US Jane finds out that Kim is actually FBI Agent Kim Fisher. 

Lisbon and Jane reunite and share a long overdue hug. Patrick is thrilled to see her. Abbott tells Jane he will be on probation for five years and consult with the FBI with a new team.  Jane tells him his terms were he will only work with Lisbon and he is a free man. 

Abbott threatens to throw Jane in a detention suite but Jane refused to back down. He won't work with anyone but Lisbon.
