When Patrick Jane meets Colonel Raymond, he immediately feels that something is off about the man. When he learns that his wife was murdered months earlier and another man was charged with the crime, Jane asks Abbott to reopen the case. Despite having nothing but Jane's instincts to go on, Abbott agrees.

Jane and Lisbon pose as a couple to check out the crime scene and realize that there had to be another person involved. Jane then enlists Wiley and Vega's help to track down the Colonel's girlfriend. When the figure out that the girlfriend posed as the Colonel's wife after she was already dead, then end up on a hunt for missing clothes on the side of the road. Wiley manages to find them in a homeless man's tent.

Despite having almost no evidence, Jane and Lisbon manage to bluff and convince the couple that they had DNA that linked at least one of them to the crime, causing both parties to turn on the other. Both pointing fingers saying that the other actually committed the murder and stabbed the wife.
