When a witness and the entire FBI team protecting him are gunned down, Agent Spackman returns to ask Agent Abbott's team to not only protect the only remaining witness but to stopped the trained killer who is after her. The hunt takes Spackman, Lisbon and Jane to Louisana where Lyden, the assassin shoots Spackman who is taken away by ambulance. Jane is even more shaken up when he sees the bullet hole that goes through Teresa's sleeve. It leads to a sleepless night as she attempts to console him.
As the team is about to move the witness to the courthouse, the fire department is called in and the hotel is evacuated for smoke. From the surveillance van, Jane tells Lisbon he thinks the killer is dressed as an EMT on another floor and sends her to find him. Turns out the killer is dressed as an EMT but he's not where Jane sent Lisbon. After the killer is captured, Lisbon realizes that Jane sent her on a wild goose chase in order to keep her safe. She is furious with him and apologizes but admits he'd probably do it again.
