After Damon hijacked Elena as his date at the hospital's fundraiser, she decided she was frustrated living without her memories. She told Damon to take her to the last place they said "I love you." He took her as close as he could, near the Mystic Falls border. Elena got so frustrated that she actually crossed the border to try and erase the compulsion, almost killing herself.

Luckily, Damon pulled her back. Then he realized that he loved her enough to try to let her go. At the end when he was feeling drunk and despondent, he found Bonnie's teddy bear in the cemetery, giving him hope.

Bonnie put her magic into the bear for safekeeping from Kai and sent it to the future.

We also found out that Jo, is in fact, Kai's sister. While out on a date with Alaric at the fundraiser, Jo said that she gave up her magic for safekeeping. Later on when Alaric saw a huge scar on Jo's stomach, she explained that her brother tried to gut spleen with a hunting knife as a child.

Elsewhere, Sherrif Forbes was kidnapped by Tripp's cronies. Stefan helped Caroline save her mother and Enzo finally realized and revealed Caroline's feelings for Stefan. They finally discuss it and Caroline says she knows he doesn't feel anything back so she needs to hate him to protect herself. Meanwhile, Stefan is just confused about how he missed it.
