Recap

The Big Three celebrated their birthdays on This Is Us Season 2 Episode 1.

As Randall, Kate, and Kevin turned 37, they found themselves dealing with unresolved issues from their past.

Randall's baby fever caused a rift between him and Beth, who wasn't as eager about adopting a baby boy to honor both of his fathers' legacies, as he was.

Kate tried to pursue a singing career but found her weight was still a constant obstacle that was sabotaging her.

Kevin finally admitted that he felt like a fraud. His grand gestures were his attempt at convincing people that he was good at something when he didn't even feel like he was a good actor.

Meanwhile, the flashbacks pick up with Rebecca and Jack dealing with the aftermath of their major fight.

While they are on a "break," Jack moves in temporarily with Miguel and finally comes clean with Rebecca about the demons that he's been secretly battling.

Make sure you have your tissues handy because as promised, the episode also gives us our first look at the night Jack died.

Much isn't revealed about the cause of his death but we do get some clues that could help us piece it all together.

This Is Us Season 2 Episode 1 Quotes

I said no. But your father was so sure I was tired and I was grieving and he just kept pushing me. He was so determined that you were meant to be. Meant to be ours. Sometimes, in marriage, someone has to be the one to push to make the big moves. And oftetimes in our marriage, yes, it was your father. Our marriage wasn't perfect, it's true, but none are. And your father wasn't perfect either, but he was pretty damn close. As close as they come. He pushed a stranger on me, and the stranger became my child and that child became my life. He became you."

Rebecca

I'm a 37-year-old woman. And I shouldn't need to be pushed or coddled. Not by a man, not by my husband, not by my brother, not by anyone!
