Ecbert tells Ragnar that he has a ship ready to take Ivar home. Ragnar wants to say goodbye to him. Ivar doesn't want to leave without him, but Ragnar tells him he must stay alive. Ragnar tells Ivar to seek revenge on Ecbert, not Aelle, for his death.

Ragnar is transported by Ecbert's men. He says he has no intention of escaping. 

Ragnar realizes that he's being led by a blind man who tells him he can see him. Ragnar realizes the Seer's prophecy is coming true. 

King Aelle tells Ragnar he will atone for his sins before he dies. Ragnar is raised in a cage whlie Aelle's men poke at his feet with spears and torches. The next morning they continue to torture him, waiting for him to ask for absolution. 

Ragnar has visions of his past. 

Ragnar's last words are of Valhalla and waiting for his sons there. Then Ragnar is dropped into a pit of snakes. They swarm his body and bite him multiple times until he dies. 

Ivar arrives home and tells his brothers of Ragnar's fate. He tells them they must avenge his death. 

Ubbe and Sigurd tell Ivar that their mother is also dead, and that Lagertha is now queen.
