The MTV VMAs took over New York City on Monday, August 20th.

The biggest name's in music gathered at Radio City Music Hall for a night that promised "iconic" moments similar to year's past.

Unfortunately, the VMAs are no longer "music's most unpredictable night," and most of the moments simply failed to live up to the hype.

Here's your lowdown on the night's biggest winners, the best and worst performance, and the most buzzworthy moments that will be the talk of the office tomorrow.

1. Video Vanguard Award Winner: J-Lo

Best Performance, Best Speech, Best Dancing, Best Outfit... they all goes to J-Lo!!! There was the expected glam from the Video Vanguard recipient, the first Latina winner ever, but there was also Jenny from the Block, humbled by all of her achievements, thanking those that have helped her along this 20-year-ride. She shouted out her children for making her "stronger" and her soulmate Alex Rodriguez for showing her that the sky is not the limit on a daily basis. There are a handful of hardworking artists left in the biz, and JLo continues to be one of them.

2. Best Joke: Fifth Harmony Diss

Tiffany Haddish took a jab at Fifth Harmony while boasting about Camila Cabello's five nominations. It all came full-circle when Nicki Minaj accepted her first award and told her to back off because "Normani is a bad b**ch." Can't we just have love for all five girls?

3. Pink Carpet Couple Debut: Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson

Newly engaged couple Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson made their pink carpet debut as a couple during the pre-show! When she accepted the award for Best Pop Song for "No Tears Left to Cry" she thanked him "for existing." Ah, young love!

4. Best Statement Performance: Logic and Ryan Teder

Logic is known for using his platform for good. He entered Radio City Music Hall with a bold message on his shirt -- "f**k the wall." If being followed by a group of people in white T-shirts felt familiar, it's because Slim Shady did the same thing in his 2000 VMA performance of "The Real Slim Shady." Each person in the performance donned a "we are all human" shirt and has been impacted by immigration issues. OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder added vocals to the moving performance.

5. Wettest Performance: Shawn Mendes

Like the greats before him -- I'm looking at you Taylor Swift and Britney Spears -- Shawn Mendes added a little rain to his opening performance. Talk about kicking things off on a wet note.

6. Biggest Winners: Childish Gambino and Cardi B

Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino won three awards: Best Choreography, Best Direction, and Video with a Message for "This is America." Sadly, he wasn't on hand to accept the awards. Cardi B also took home a few awards including Best New Artist, Song of the Summer for "I Like That" ft. Bad Bunny and J. Balvin, and Best Collaboration with Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled on "Dinero."

7. Best Quote of the Night: Cardi B

Critics were harsh on Cardi B after she revealed that she was expecting a baby with Migos' Offset just as her career was taking off. But did that stop her? Nope. In her acceptance speech, Cardi made it clear that becoming a mother didn't slow her down one bit: "I had a baby, I carried a baby, and now, I’m still winning awards." Don't get it twisted, okurrrr? She may not be your cup of tea, but she is always unapologetically herself.

8. Queen of Squinting: Ariana Grande

Come on girl, it's about time you invest in some contacts or bring your glasses. By now, Ariana Grande is the queen of squinting -- she does it everywhere, including the VMAs! Thank god fiancee Pete Davidson was on-hand to tell her what was happening!

9. Best Skit: Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick

I have been dying to see the movie "A Simple Favor." Maybe it's because of that catchy French tune? Maybe it's because I love thrillers? Or maybe it's because this is the closest we'll ever get to Blake being Serena van der Woodsen again? Anyways, most of the "skits" were a total flop, however, Anna and Blake managed to pull off some intense miming while the Rockette's danced behind them. Blake even made a joke at her own expense when she said "she's kind of a big deal" and always gets what she wants.

10. Best Audience Dancer: Cardi B

Momma needs a night on the town! Taylor Swift wasn't in attendance but we didn't really miss her audience-dancing too much because Cardi B filled in! We should all have as much fun in life as Cardi does at award shows.

11. Major TV Announcement: The Hills Returns!

The Hills stars, sans Lauren Conrad, reunited on the pink carpet and teased a major announcement to Pauly D and Vinny from The Jersey Shore. What year are we in? Midway through the VMAs, a promo with the signature "Unwritten" theme song played as the network teased "The Hills: New Beginnings." The series will reportedly reunite "original cast members, alongside their children, friends and returning favorites, and follow their personal and professional lives while living in Los Angeles." It's expected to premiere in 2019.

12. Gossip Queens: Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj

First, Ariana helped Nicki Minaj walk up the stairs to accept her award. Then, they were spotted gossiping about something juicy. What were these queens talking about? Did it have something to do with Nicki's beef with Travis Scott after she accused him of inflating album sales? Or was Ariana dishing upcoming wedding details?

13. Weirdest Collab: Travis Scott and James Blake

Travis Scott's performance may have been out of this world, but it was in line with his #1 selling album, Astroworld. Yes, James Blake is featured on the song "Stop Trying to Be," but his appearance felt slightly out-of-sync with the rest of Scott's vibe. Though it was better than watching Kylie Jenner look bored out of her mind.

14. Video of the Year: Havana

In addition to her "Artist of the Year" award, Camila Cabello took home the coveted "Video of the Year" award for her unavoidable hit, "Havana." Watching her fan-girl when Madonna presented her with the award -- "I dedicate this award to Madonna" -- was just the icing on top of the whole night.

15. Best Vocals: Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande never disappoints when it comes to vocals. She commanded the stage with her ladies-anthem "God is a Woman," and didn't shy away from controversy when she put a sexy, feminine twist on "The Last Supper." In the end, she honored the strong females in her life by walking out hand-in-hand with her mother Joan, her grandmother Marjorie, and her cousin Lani.

16. Cringeworthy Tribute to the Late Aretha

The "Queen of Soul" deserved a much better tribute than what the VMAs delivered. Madonna was tasked with honoring the late Aretha Franklin, but instead, she paid homage to herself and her "rebel heart" beginnings for over ten minutes! Couldn't they at least put together a montage or get Ariana Grande to belt out "Natural Woman?" There's a reason Twitter is roasting Madonna right now. Can the upcoming award shows please remedy this? And I didn't even mention the part about Madonna's outfit getting called out for cultural appropriation.

17. Best Collaboration: Post Malone and Aerosmith

Post Malone took home the "Song of the Year" award so it was only logical that he would team-up with 21 Savage to close out the show with "Rockstar." But the collaboration I never knew I needed? Post Malone and Aerosmith rocking out together to "Dream On." That's how you end it on a high note!
