Slow Horses Scores Early Renewal for Season 6 For More Misfit Spy Chaos Ahead

Who doesn’t want more of the best spy show on TV? Lamb? River? Taverner? Oh, absolutely — yes, please!

Slow Horses has officially scored an early renewal for Season 6, and we couldn’t be more excited!

While we already knew Season 5 was on its way, set to pick up after Frank Harkness’s deadly schemes, Apple TV+ has already given our favorite misfit spies the green light for another season.

That’s right, the show is sticking around for even more thrilling and chaotic espionage fun. Apple wasted no time making the announcement barely two weeks after the explosive Slow Horses Season 4 finale.

There’s plenty to look forward to.

Season 5 will be based on Mick Herron’s London Rules, and we can only speculate that Season 6 will follow Joe Country, the next book in the Slough House series.

With so many books to adapt, this train isn’t stopping any time soon.

Apple TV+’s creative director for Europe, Jay Hunt, said it best: “Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses.”

“I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure,” he added.

The Best (and Worst) Spies in the Game

River Cartwright

Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is the heart of the show — an old-school spy who’s as rough around the edges as they come, but man, does he know how to get the job done.

And in Season 4’s finale, we saw a rare, almost fatherly moment between Lamb and River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) after all the chaos.

Underneath all that snark, Lamb actually cares about his team, and his dynamic with River is one of the show’s highlights.

River might be a bit of a mess, but isn’t that why we love him? He’s got his share of trauma and bumbles through a lot, but when push comes to shove, he’s got Lamb’s guidance to keep him steady.

Plus, the whole gang — Louisa, J.K. Coe, Shirley, Roddy Ho, and yes, even Catherine — makes Slough House feel like the best (and worst) spy team around.

Sure, we lost Marcus (RIP), but with Frank Harkness still out there and plenty of mischief on the horizon, there’s no shortage of drama.

Who else is ready to see the badass Diana Taverner take down Claude Whelan or watch our crew serve up some well-deserved payback?

Slow Horses Stands Above the Rest

With spy thrillers popping up everywhere — Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal and Netflix’s The Black Doves just to name a few — there’s no shortage of cloak-and-dagger content coming to our screens.

But let’s be real: Slow Horses stands alone at the top.

What sets it apart isn’t just the action (though there’s plenty of that) but how it blends a razor-sharp wit with messy, complex characters who feel real.

Tavener's got big headaches.

These aren’t your polished super-spies — they’re flawed, funny, and sometimes downright chaotic, and that’s what makes them unforgettable.

It’s this mix of grit and charm that makes Slow Horses so unique. No other show manages to balance explosive drama with moments of genuine humanity the way this one does.

Sure, new contenders might be hitting the spy genre, but none of them have the misfit magic of Slough House.
