The Conners Season 5 Episode 2 Recap: Scenes From Two Marriages: The Parrot Doth Protest Too Much

Ben wants to go out for a nice dinner and an Italian movie. Darlene wants to stay at her Dad's house, eat takeout, and watch football. Darlene says she'll go out tomorrow night to make Ben happy.

Ben picks a Romeo and Juliet play where the actors get drunk, and the audience members have to take their place. Darlene is uncomfortable at the play and doesn't go on stage when called. Ben tells her to loosen up and that she's turning into her father. Darlene gets angry and leaves.

While on the couch with Dan, Darlene realizes she is resembling her father. Dan says there's nothing wrong with wanting to stay home on the couch, but he does appreciate that Louise makes him get out in the world so that life doesn't pass him by.

Darlene apologizes for ruining Ben's night out. She agrees that they will have two nights out per week. One she'll choose, and the other he can choose with some restrictions, including nothing with audience participation.

Jackie moves in with Neville, who didn't want to live together until they were married. Neville brings home many of his patients that need extra care so he can spend more time with Jackie. There's a pot-bellied pig, a parrot, a goat, a ferret, a chinchilla, and a bearded dragon. Sometimes Jackie has to help with their care.

The animals are driving Jackie crazy. The bearded dragon bites her, the pig screams at night, and the parrot constantly talks back. Neville admits that he's never lived with a person before, and he's worried he's too boring, so he brought the pets home to keep things interesting.

Jackie assures him that she loves him and thinks he's plenty interesting. Neville agrees to take the animals back to work. Later, the two enjoy their quiet time by getting frisky on the couch.
