I like a good happy ending. Truly, I am a total sucker for "and they lived happily ever after."
So I'm very happy with the outcome of The Librarians Season 3 Episode 10, which concluded the season and saw the downfall of this year's Big Bad, Apep.
While some might consider it convenient that each of the Librarians had an essential part of the ultimate solution, this was hardly without precedent. The Library ensured practically the same thing back in The Librarians Season One.
It was gratifying that Eve never actually betrayed the Library, though the episode didn't exactly do much to answer the question of whether or not Eve was originally intended to be a DOSA infiltrator, per the general's earlier claims.
I was actually impressed that DOSA managed to construct such an effective technology-based Library equivalent when (even in this episode!) their personnel, up to and including the general herself, act in such a blatantly incompetent manner.
Though it did lend to my favorite exchange of the episode:
General Rockwell: You don’t just expect me to hand [the artifacts] over, do you?
Jake: You really think after what you’ve seen today that they’re safest with you?
Cassandra: I’m sure you’ll do a great job taking care of the Loch Ness monster!
Ezekiel: And no one will accidentally open up Pandora’s box!
Jenkins: Or touches Midas’s hand.
General Rockwell: We are not fools! We are trained to deal with any–
Flynn [pointedly]: Or open up an Egyptian god’s sarcophagus and end up becoming possessed.

Flynn really does have a point, too. And not just about the general, but all the DOSA people!
Look at the three guys who just stood around as their general attacked Eve without explanation!
One of the headscratchers I pondered during this episode was where Excalibur was.
Given that DOSA's invasion was a setup arranged by Flynn and Eve, no doubt they made sure that Cal was out of the way.

After all, it wouldn't do for all the idiot DOSA guys to get rampantly slaughtered by a magical sword whose wounds can't heal…
Actually, the blatant absence of Cal (unmentioned though it was) served as one of the big clues for me that DOSA's attack was a setup.
The second was when Eve made a big deal over Apep's sarcophagus.
I have to say, though, that it was definitely, definitely not nice the way that they treated Jenkins.
Not telling the LITs is one thing, but Jenkins? The Library's caretaker?
Jenkins: How many Librarians does it take to get Jenkins out of the box?!

Frankly, the only reason I could think of that they didn't tell Jenkins was so that they could have the big moment later when Jenkins revealed to Eve that Flynn actually intended to make a heroic sacrifice.
There was one thing I was definitely conflicted about: I know that Apep was evil and all, but I couldn't help but feel a bit off over the way that the Librarians used him as the power source for the Eye of Ra.
They gave him humanity, and then killed him. The situation just felt… I don't even really know how to describe it.
Honestly, I'd be glad to hear your thoughts on it, too.
There were a whole bunch of great scenes and lines, from Ezekiel's repeated desire to play tourist at Mount Rushmore, to Jake figuring out all too quickly that the artifact hunt was a setup, to the password being "password."
I also really liked the scenes in which Flynn was surreptitiously stealing the artifacts right from under the noses of DOSA personnel. And it was nice to have a cameo by both Charlene and Judson.
A few final thoughts before I turn the discussion over to you:
- Did DOSA give the Library all the artifacts in their possession, or just the ones that had been in the Library previously?
- DOSA, beyond the idiocy of its personnel, clearly didn't care about the fact that they essentially condemned a human being (immortality notwithstanding) to total isolation without trial.
- Does the ending mean that Apep is dead and the Ultimate Evil is stopped forever?
- The Library is a magical pocket plane of potentially infinite size, making the general's order to "pack it all up" unintentionally hilarious.

So, what did you think of "And the Wrath of Chaos"?
Were you glad that Flynn didn't have to sacrifice himself, or did it seem like a cheap way to get out of killing his character? Will DOSA ever return? Let us know in the comments below!
