The CW dropped some great news on Vampire Diaries Fanatics this month:
The show has been renewed for Season 8.
But Ian Somerhalder recently spoke to TV Guide and delivered some bad news, even if it's pretty expected news for anyone that has been following The Vampire Diaries and its ratings of late.
"Can you believe this sh-t? F-cking seven years! Isn't that crazy?" Somerhalder said, gushing over how far the show has come.
"We have another year now… [This morning] I just thought, 'Wow, man. You just navigated seven years, 154 episodes of television.' And by the time it's done, it's going to be 176 episodes, by this time next year."
That's a rather strong indication that TVD will come to an end after Season 8, isn't it?
Somerhalder did add, however, that he has no direct knowledge that the series will wrap up in 2017.
But he does hope Season 8 focuses on the "wonderful core group of characters that navigated the treacherous waters of what is Mystic Falls" as a type of swan song.
Long before that, though, The CW will air The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 16, which Somerhalder actually directed.
"This one was really about telling the story of this whole group of individuals and how they're all intersecting. And we lost some very wonderful, very beautiful characters in this episode," he previews.
"It was just about tugging on the heartstrings of the audience and really allowing them to feel these characters."
Do you think The Vampire Diaries Season 8 should be it?
