TV Ratings Report: American Idol Returns Solid, Good Girls Goes Low

ABC brought American Idol back to the air on Sunday night, and it looks like viewers are still on board for more drama.

The two-hour opener secured 8.6 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating in the demo.  The opener is way down on last season's 10.5 million viewers and a 2.3 rating, the figures on par with its season average.

Leading out of Idol, Shark Tank perked up to 4.2 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating.

Over on NBC, World of Dance jumped to Sundays with series lows. It scored 4.2 million viewers and a 1.0 rating.

This format is just not as strong as what NBC hoped it would be, and the next few weeks of ratings should tell the story about whether it will be back.

God Friended Me (6.8 million/0.7 rating), NCIS: Los Angeles (6.9 million/0.9 rating), and Madam Secretary (5.2 million/0.6 rating) were each up from their season lows.

The CW's rotation of Supergirl (1.2 million/0.4 rating) and Charmed (0.8 million/0.3 rating) inched up.
