Designated Survivor Gets Season 3 Premiere Date at Netflix

President Tom Kirkman will be back in the White House this summer.

Netflix has confirmed that Designated Survivor Season 3 will premiere Friday, June 7, well over a year after Designated Survivor Season 2 concluded.

The streamer saved the series after ABC passed on a third season last year.

It stars Kiefer Sutherland as a man who is thrust into the role as President of the United States when a terrorist attack wipes out the other cabinet members. 

At the time, the ratings were sliding, but the show did go through a bunch of showrunners during its two-season run on the alphabet network.

Neal Baer has been drafted in as the showrunner of the third season, becoming the fifth one overall since the series was announced.  

Designated Survivor Season 3 will span ten episodes as opposed to the first two seasons which had over 20 episodes each.

The shorter episode order should help provide leaner storytelling and an overall better show for fans. 

"Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the U.S. and Canada in its first two seasons," Netflix VP content Bela Bajaria said in September when the news of the show being saved dropped.

"The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season and we are excited to bring the first two seasons to our U.S. and Canadian members as well.”

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to play President Kirkman for season three of Designated Survivor with Netflix, eOne and Neal Baer," Sutherland said.

"I believe this format will allow us to continue to delve deeply into storylines and issues concerning the American electorate that were not previously possible.”
