The Wonder Years Flashback: "Independence Day"

at .

When it aired, the Wonder Years finale was superb. All these years later, it still holds up.

"Independence Day" was a two-part episode that ultimately brought the series to a close.

It's the summer of 1973. Winnie takes a job at a summer resort as a lifeguard. Kevin decides on a cross-country trip with his friends.

The latter turns Kevin's dad, Jack, against him, and he abandons the trip, but Kevin and Winnie are on good terms and he eventually goes to see her at camp, believing he can work there, too.

Unfortunately, life is moving on, and Winnie is, too. A fight and mistakes later and possibly the two long-time friends made love for the first time. Or, maybe it was all in our heads. We will probably never know.

We do know they arrived back home hand in hand to the 4th of July parade. The narrator, heard below, talks about what's to come for the main characters.

Kids grow up and apart from the friends and family they spent time with while they were children.

But they'll never forget the special times, such as 4th of July celebrations, that meant so much to them during that time.

I think this show garners a rewatch!!
