Whiskey Cavalier: ABC Boss Says Cancellation Was a ‘Very Tough’ Decision

It's been a few days since ABC pulled the plug on Whiskey Cavalier.

With ABC's Upfronts presentation happening later today, ABC president of entertainment, Karey Burke has opened up about the cancellation of the Scott Foley and Lauren Cohan led series.

It was a tough decision, it was the last decision we made,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said at the Disney upfront event.

“We thought we gave it very strong launch in spring. But we lost audience. We felt the biggest opportunity was to try something new."

"We looked for other time slots but did not see a real opportunity to grow.”

When Whiskey Cavalier was picked up to series last year, many thought it was going to be a breakout success when it premiered.

But Whiskey Cavalier Season 1 has failed to garner much traction.

The show is currently averaging 3.4 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating in the demo. These numbers swell to 6.6 million viewers and a 1.2 rating with DVR factored in.

Going into Upfronts week, the drama series was one of the most likely to be canceled because of the post-premiere ratings erosion.

Additionally, the show is not owned by ABC, so that's partly why the network decided to give the show up and press on with a new show entirely.

Deadline notes that Warner Bros. TV group are actively pursuing a new home for the series, but more often than not, the talks to revive a canceled series cool off.
